There was recently some speculation wheather DGI & Dyani are still engaged with GCM or not because there was no renewal of their contracts.

Check out the company announcements from January 2025. The previous contracts ended in June & December 2023. They still worked throughout the year 2024 with GCM and then got the fees backdated. So I think according to how they acted in the past you can't conclude that DGI & Dyani are not working with GCM anymore with certainty.

Actually in contrast if this is really the final phase of reaching an agreement with power of China and the GOB I would guess that the consulting company's are still involved to support GCM.

When you look at the bara coal mine as we know it there seems to be indeed a difference between bara south and bara north. They need different dewatering techniques and there are probably more technical differences. However this are specific geological details. To me it appears not sensible that the newly sworn in minister goes into geological details when talking about a general plan to boost energy supply. In this context they would just say they intent to open pit mine bara as everything else would be too much technical detail.

Furthermore it does not make any sense to open pit mine only either the northern or the southern part of bara as we know it as the parts are too tiny to mine them via open pit method independently. You need to go for them together or leave it. So why differentiating between bara south and bara north?

This is why I think it is more likely that bara south points towards phulbari.

When you compare old money to today's money you have to consider not only dilution but also inflation which is cumulative about 70% for the last 20 years...

I translated the transcript and it is mainly about gas but there was one section about coal:

"Internationally, everyone is addressing the emissions issue, but if we can use our domestic coal, our energy mix will improve, and energy security will be strengthened. There may come a time when imported energy prices are beyond our purchasing power or when we lose competitiveness, which would reduce investment."
