Very true words C*
I Nearly always sell poor performers, oft-eliciting a slight loss..... Have to force myself to do it as it slight admission of failure/poor judgement and is also countering known loss aversion bias, which naturally draws us to a more palatable to feeling to our 'ego chimp' of instead selling shares most in- profit, so-called skimming, free shares...call it what you will.
An example of 'exiting', sold some HEMO today and took 5% loss (if you use recent shares purchased values not my average) to buy some that had fallen and some that had risen COBR, EEE, RENX, APTA, GCSU, ALRT, BNC (Santander Bank 110% on year !) and RENX (Yes I know since my ill-disguised fluffery last month it's shaved 1p of late, but it's gonna flourish and be as close to a ten bagger, in the not too distant, of the 7 others above imho.). A case of buying (or selling, for that matter) a bit too early never a bad thing either. Better to have....
* Dusty, superb investment strategy.
So many investors won't purchase as a share rises because it increases their average SP.
Ridiculous strategy.
Hedge funds invest more as each stage of evolution derisks the project.
Funding coming from exiting none performers.
But, amateurs sell after a 100% gain and shout to the world "free shares".
Well, you can take a horse to water.
