Lies, damn lies and statistics... From a Dutch geek:
"You will hear more and more in the near future that “10% of the people in the hospital were fully vaccinated!!1!”, as if that were a dramatic statement.
But actually, that's great news - because 90% of that population is vaccinated, that means those vaccinated are apparently 9 times less likely to end up in hospital, just as promised!
As more people are vaccinated, these numbers could get even crazier.
As an example, if 99% are vaccinated, the majority of patients in the hospital will be fully vaccinated. There are just not that many in an absolute sense.
So think carefully about what statistics mean before you think “OH NO”.
The same goes for news that vaccinated people still test positive - the tests are so sensitive that very silly infections are also detected.
“People with the vaccine die more often”
The same applies to the comment by an expired politician that vaccinated people more often die from Corona. The point is, young people are rarely vaccinated. And never die from Corona.
Those who do die are the elderly, almost the only ones. 40 times more people over the age of 60 have died than below. And almost all elderly people have now been vaccinated at least once.
Since young people are the only ones unvaccinated and simply do not appear in the death figures, it seems as if your chance of dying as a vaccinated person is enormously higher.
But that's just as wrong as reporting that almost all deaths are right-handed - so that doesn't mean anything.
