You can have high grades, but they may not be easy to extract from the source rock or may have high levels of an impurity that is expensive to dispose of. As far as I am aware, this is even more significant on a VMS or similar mixed deposit where you are exploiting seams with high levels of zinc or copper but also wanting to separate the lead, tin, gold and silver etc.
