walk onto any construction site into a small welfare cabin running a typical 10KW generator and you will see signs all over them stating "after 3 hours continuous use the diesel generator will switch off and power will be supplied by the battery backup" you will also note that if you switch a kettle on on a 10KW diesel generator - the generator starts screaming as its working its nuts off.

Its kind of impossible to know what the agreement was, and everyone with their own bias will speculate however it suits their interests.

given that here's my speculation not too far off of stocks to be fair - the line in the RNS "It is not AFC Energy's intention to become a capital intensive hydrogen logistics provider" seems aimed at assuring octopus we dont intend to step on their toes (as they may down the line benefit from purchasing some of our tech)

i wouldn't be too surprised if the "undisclosed sum" was a bargain for AFC, on the condition that we provide them some discounted "world leading" crackers.

No you arent ADE, you are concerned that the deal scope more than doubled from 2m to 4.7, and AFC now hove multiple revenue streams from fuel production and delivery too.

Truth - thats not what im doing, i was simply providing examples as to why your statement that this is a mistake is false based on general fuel distribution. as stated this is specialist gear not a standard tanker the needs are much more specific and not something you want to trust anyone with HGV license to handle - hence they want in house people to do it right.

in the long term when hydrogen becomes more mainstream maybe they could look at contracting out but right now this is the right choice.

this is an aria i know quite well as i have worked for a number of refinery's.

the cost to hire transport is a lot - standard practice is for every transport you need 3 independent quotes. you then need to select one, and raise a purchase order. the administrative costs soon add up. its also less reliable for ad hoc requests. its quite often that for a standard flat bed / curtain sider that nothing is available on the day you want it.

its the same reason even the supermarkets own their own fuel tankers - they don't refine their own fuel they go to the same refinery's as everyone else (Valero, shell, BP and Esso) they just use their own tankers as its cheaper than hiring every single one in. if you need extra trailers on a given day then you hire but the requirement and cost is much lower.

its the same as staffing - every company has a base level of staff it requires to do its day to day function, if a large project comes in or if work requirements expand rapidly most company's turn to short term contractors to fill the gap (even though they cost 2-3times more than their own staff) because you cant just hire and fire to fill a short term demand.

Truth - no we aren't in logistics, but as already mentioned this is normal!, Any business which in any way handles the distribution of fuel has its own transport

we like every other company involved in fuel distribution should have out own transport and storage facility's.

you may have heard but there is a shortage of HGV drivers (and equipment) in the UK making it rather expensive and unreliable for short timescale turnaround of orders. if a SHS customer is low on fuel they expect a delivery within 24 hours such as you can expect if ordering a diesel bowser.

this makes sense for plenty of reasons. you give only one reason it doesn't make sense. which happens to also be false - cash burn will be higher this way in the short term, but if you have a fuel tanker on hire 24/7 driving all over the country, it isnt long before the costs swing the other way.

just google it - morrisons has over 1700 trailers and 650 tractor units (enough for a base level of needs). are they idiots for not outsourcing the base level requirement? or are they smart given they are used every single day and its far cheaper to pay fuel + maintenance than having a massive amount of people responsible for ringing around company's asking for quotes to deliver every single load, quotes which vary every day based on availability, then people to do the admin on the quotes, approving raising Purchase orders e.c.t. its far cheaper to do it yourself than outsource over the medium term. this makes sense even if you dont want it to.

Truth - everyone, and i mean everyone, who needs regular delivery's of a standardized product has some of their own transport fleet to cover the base needs and outsource the peaks.

even morrisons, asda and Tesco have tankers for transporting fuels.

in the construction game having your own fleet of transport is a must - you get a call Monday morning for more fuel - it needs to be there Tuesday morning latest - downtime isn't an option - this allows them to do that.
