Maybe Finkit will be fantastic in 4 years, but it seems short term revenue is just not happening.

Reading the Fiserv prospectus it sounds quite glum, revenue dropping in MVP (US), MEP (Europe) and Monitise Create, etc. No customers for finkit in 2 years of launch. My voucher codes growing but not enough to secure it by the sounds of it. Finkit still sounds 12-18 months away from landing any serious fish even with Fiserv backing. May regret this if a counter offer comes, but I sold this morning. I assume IBM have been informed in advance and had a chance to buy Moni, but didn't take up the offer. Apparently Fiserv have been negotiating a price since January.

An order of magnitude more information in the Fiserv RNS about the offer compared to the Moni RNS. There is more detail and BoD quotes on the RNS from another company....total news blackout. While IBM Fiserv Apple and Google walk away with the tokenisation tech. I just suppose technology overtook Moni in the end? If nothing else, they changed an industry for the better, which may not be a bad thing.

Will IBM want to partner with Fiserv? Could IBM counterbid?

10 years to get to profitability and at that exact point and the release of finkit they recommend an offer for the totality at a record low? Fingers crossed BIDDING WAR. The sp trading in the trenches today will be interesting.

Even if Monitise have nothing to do with the IBM private cloud outsourcing, I don't think it really matters, a 250 year old 'big four' bank has just gone to IBM on the cloud, a few months after IBM release the 'cloud for financial services'. That sends a message cloudy banks are going mainstream worldwide. Huge resistance barriers have tumbled. Lloyds bank is heading for APIs and PaaS. With any luck a Moni API will creep in there (behaviosec and currency cloud are obvious contenders). The Monitise ship may have just reached a SP sweet spot, it's still speculative, but two big contracts and this justifies 10-15p, moni has a history of running 300+ banks, plus the 90+% of the banking sector who use IBM will get a sales pitch. The shift to IBM's private cloud will take three years. Lloyds said it will maintain "a substantial retained organisation" in its Group IT function, to provide service, manage the cloud transformation and "help deliver the benefits over the coming years as part of our transformation partnership." Morteza Mahjour, group CIO, said the deal will allow the bank to become "highly scalable" and provide "up to date technology on demand".

Currency Cloud has the ability to massively reduce the costs of FX transfer (and annoy your employers too with reduced margins). FastaCash will let me transfer money directly from my bank/mobile to my friends using facebook/whatsapp. Behaviosec will reduce fraud by realising the little old grannies have suddenly started typing like a Linux armchair warrior HID global FICO all good stuff too. Tokenisation - already out there in the field, going into watches, phones, jewellery. Some debate on the patent royalties on that. Banks need to realise that all I need for my banking needs, are a pot of money in my phone and a way to spend it. I don't need a branch. I don't need a few thousand IT staff. I don't need hundreds of millions spent on advertising. I don't need an ATM. And I really hate currency fees (hence why I use alternatives to banks for FX).

Christ we could do with some indication of genuine progress soon. It's been well over 2 years since we actually launched the fricking cloudy doodah. Still, we have a hundred or so employees working away on Finkit and the products their coming out with are capable of changing the entire industry. April 2015 "Over the course of the next year, we expect to see our new cloud-based platform play an increasingly important role in driving our user numbers and revenue growth" If it's going to happen, it seems like the next 6 months is the sweet spot, but the market has no time for this share until it begins to deliver, if you over-promise for 4 years and underdeliver the market will punish you. Now that Moni are under-promising, they may well surprise the market with a small number of decent banks using their technology. IBM seem just about able to deliver that now. This could be the stock of 2018, but it's really painful to watch.

Best way to explain finkit: Imagine you have two options. Hire a few dozen developers, set up a project, spend 2 years reviewing the code, release, hope no problems. Or, plug an API into your mobile app that does whatever feature you want (currency exchange, security, loans, mortgages) and release it. 30% of a banks costs are branches, 30-40% is IT and developer. On a mobile app, you don't really need either. If a bank can sell services 50% cheaper than all of it's rivals.........

Yes - it is a good point, Bluemix and "Finkit" are technically related, but are separate systems. Bluemix is a general cloud implementation with dozens of APIs on it, on a few dozen global datacenters (IBM have public price lists for these APIs), however the 'secret' Finkit corner seems like a private area where a bunch of pre-approved 3rd party Fintech APIs live together in the forest. The Finkit / Lloyds partnership may well be nothing to do with Monitise. But remains a possibility due to the announcement timeline: a) Moni launch Finkit API ecosystem running on IBM Bluemix cloud in London, November 2016 b) March 12th 2017 - Lloyds formally announced it is outsourcing several thousand IT staff to IBM to implement APIs on a 'private cloud' https://www.ft.com/content/8595e7a2-076f-11e7-97d1-5e720a26771b c) March 20th 2017 - IBM launch the 'IBM Cloud for Financial Services' on Bluemix with a 'major UK bank' using it for development https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/03/13/lloyds_to_outsource_2000_staff_in_ibm_deal/

IBM just calls it a different name, it only lists the currently live APIs, including two that Monitise have confirmed (yodlee and currency cloud), so I'm moderately sure this is Finkit. Bluemix is a cloud. Well, technically it is a dedicated fibre optic network that has segregated areas fenced off from the wider and darker internet. Within Bluemix lives the 'IBM Cloud for financial services' - a separate area from the public API cloud, presumably for known and trusted business partners. IBM have dozens of their own APIs for basic things, while also allowing controlled 3rd party APIs to connect into the mix. No idea what the financial relationship is. Lukies/Cameron used to suggest £2.50+ per user, I'd take that with a pinch of salt. If (big question over this) the recent Lloyds outsourcing to IBM is to Finkit - the FT reported Lloyds planned to transfer 2000 staff, and save £760m of annual costs by moving to a 'nimble IBM infrastructure'. Given that Lloyds only has 30m customers, that suggests the cost reduction is about £25 per customer pa, so the Monitise figure doesn't sound massively unrealistic, IF it could achieve that type of cost reduction.
