Some people say "a paper loss is not a loss until you sell". Maybe, but when a company goes bust and the sp hits zero, it's no use looking at your share certificate in the sock drawer and saying to yourself, "I didn't sell so I haven't made a loss".

I am talking about in general and not specifically about FLX, but should that happen to FLX, I know a few people on here who are so deluded, they will be looking at their certificates and still dreaming of a Phoenix-like resurrection.

A long term investment is a short term investment that went wrong. Even if the sp goes back up and you make a small profit or break even, having that money tied up over a long term had an opportunity cost. It could have been in a riser that was also a dividend producing share.

You couldn't stand a differing opinion to yours, then, as the sp fell as FK1 told you it would, you couldn't stand being proved wrong so your nasty started to appear. Just to be clear - I do not suggest that my broker lends out shares for short selling. Their T&Cs mention only custodial risk and that they might be pooled - which I don't like.

When I talk about brokers lending out shares for other people to take risks with them, I mean other brokers who do that. That is why I say "read your broker's T&Cs" - your broker!

I am one of those "most people" who you talk about. I weighed up the risks involved in picking AIM companies, but my warning is about other people taking risks with our shares.

Your words suggest that you think it is perfectly all right for a broker to lend out your shares so that other people can take risks with your shares.

Perhaps you have been influenced by Hot Air who dismisses the issue. If there is no risk then why do the T&Cs of my broker talk about the possibility of customers sharing in a shortfall - since you don't understand let me explain - they take your shares to make up for losses incurred by someone else. It's there in writing.

If I have misunderstood what it means then someone tell me. That is why I posted on here. When I first posted about this I said that I hoped to get information from someone more knowledgeable than myself. upomega replied, but perhaps he is too busy to come back on.

LtdAxis - if you haven't read your brokers's T&Cs, or if you have read then and they do pool your shares, then you have chosen to ignore that risk. If you can ignore that then you can ignore my posts if you don't like them - use the filter or shut up.
