Speaking to Bloomberg at the World Aviation Festival about rapid testing and how it could re-open key routes - "I think its the month of October where we see Governments accept anti gene tests as a procedure to test passengers so we're talking weeks on this one - availability (of the tests) is being ramped up as we speak so I think we will see sufficient availability of these tests in the fourth quarter and I'm sure we're going to see pilot routes hopefully between the US and our home markets which we are working on so hard - we literally are only weeks away until we have a fully fledged global network again.
When questioned by the reporter about whether he would be able to fly from Frankfurt to Boston or New York by Xmas by using the €7 rapid test just before I board the aircraft the CEO said not on a fully fledged network maybe no, but on some selected routes we are working very hard to make that possible yes. Reporter said "Is this going to be part of the normal travel experience do you think?" to which the response was - we have all been wrong with our predictions so many times with covid, all of this is new to everybody - not just our industry, so of course I always have to use that disclaimer but indeed I think we will eventually get rid of the restrictions we have - a vaccine may be years away, but testing is only weeks away so I would answer your question is a clear yes in that there will be a time lying ahead of us where testing is part of an inter-continental travel experience and I do look forward to this compared to what we have today.
There we are - from the horses mouth - that combined with the CDC likely to remove their no sail order then airline shares will be flying shortly (pardon the pun) :-)
