Not sure this is new, old, or even vaguely interesting but it just popped up as a post from Canada mentioning Avacta Group.
The amount of whining I'm seeing about Innova tests been given away on street corners, work places, schools... the public are becoming really irritated at the perceived waste. Not a good LFT vibe on the streets. Bojo needs to get the new test out there followed by some heavyweight PR to explain why it is so important and transformational.
If and its a big IF then in the next par.... I have to admit its starting to look like the chosen test may be Avacta. Be bold, GLR. That sort of conviction would have had us hoisting up the white flag on Flanders Fields. ABDX is making a mountain of tests for AVCT. All logic points to it. Think of the RNS's, the recruitment drive.... job done.
I think there will always be a reticence to go 'all-in' on one single solution (obviously hope they do). The reputation of LFTs clearly needs cleaning up and the Govt can achieve that by backing a couple of test options. The public knows three vaccines by name - Phizer, Astra, Moderna - and it may play out the same way with LFTs. There will be slight differences in performance of approved LFTs and organisations/airlines/the public might decide they prefer the Avacta version (if they can get hold of it).
Before I send this to my friends at the red tops to see if we can 'get a bite' is there anything missing. It is very broad brush and only intended to turn a head.
A new test for Covid created by a team in Yorkshire will ensure a safe return to normal life this Summer!
The Government’s current lateral flow test – which uses an uncomfortable ‘brain tickler’ swab and is known to miss lots of positive cases – is made by company in China and has been roundly criticised by experts in the field who predict it could lead to another lockdown.
But now a new test created by boffins at Avacta, based in Wetherby, has created an LFT that uses a simple swab that can collect a sample with a gentle roll inside the nose. The results of the test are then available inside 20 minutes and have up to a 99% accuracy.
Avacta AffiDXSars-Cov2 uses affimers which are able to detect those with high viral loads most likely to transmit Covid. The affimers are also capable of identifying negative results preventing people from unnecessarily isolating.
Avacta’s test is being rolled out worldwide and will be available for the UK Govt in early May as England emerges from restrictions and people are able to mix indoors.
It is understood AffiDXSars-Cov2 can be used in conjunction with a phone app which instantly provides a ‘Covid passport’ for safe access to sporting events, theatres, concerts, festivals as well as flights for Summer holidays.
Despite the disruptive noise and random narrative on the board the journey really is very linear. Pledge a product, deliver a product, sell a product. The day traders and MMs have their moments but ultimately product is king. You can never escape that. And on we go.
https://avacta.com/lft-clinical-validation/ - does this get round the problem of expensive PCR testing and open up flights?
