Had HUR been debt free and had cash they could poke holes in the ground until the money runs out, and maybe find some more sweet spots to stave off the inevitable, but expressly because of the debt they can't. Unless the oil price goes stratospheric, or you get a new benefactor then the end is a foregone conclusion.

Trice was the real issue. He meant well. He had wells that tested and were performing very well. Years and years of planning and detailed analysis led him to drill these very successful wells. The issue is that not all the data was interpreted to tell the whole story and worse; when faced with evidence of increasing water cut, he backed himself into a corner. That board failed and this board is doing a much more professional job that their predecessors.

It's ironic that CA is now everyones best friend given the shade thrown in their direction, and in particular Bernstein in the past because then it was concluded he was damaging everyones investment and no one can do anything that might be perceived as contrary to the investment case. Back then the board were sacrosanct and CA the villains. But now CA are heroes.

So what can we conclude? The common denominator is those who have been on both sides of the argument proving without doubt that they do not understand what's going on. Everyone who is underwater has confirmation bias mixed with a healthy dose of desperation. They get even less back than they stand to now which is not part of the agreement which is that they get back the principle sum invested (plus interest payments) Let's not forget the bond holders were the ones who were the final enablers to get the EPS running.

The company will be wound down. An application will be made based on their liabilities and future cash projections. It can't be stopped. And it's started.
