Dan, The comments about the HQ were just for a bit of context, Vodafoen were nearly driven out of Newbury as the council did not want to give them a site big enough, in the late hours a late change of vote by a Lib Dem gave them permission for the greenfield site. To their credit Vodafone did an amazing job of trying to make it blend in with literally thousands of extra tress planted at huge cost. The point is a few years later it is made pointless by a crappy housing estate on the same land thus negating all the good they did and paid a fortune for. I am a disappointed investor it is not out of holding as "grudge" it is because Reid gets every big call wrong, I was there when he turned down apple
I used to work at the Berkshire HQ, before that there were 85 buildings in Newbury town centre and beyond focused purely on Vodafone. They made the decision to move to a purpose built campus consisting of 7 huge buildings. They spend a fortune make the site "blend in" to the neighbouring countryside with impressive numbers of trees hiding the site. Along comes the ludicrous government housing policy and there is a dirty horrible housing estate built on the very flood plain on the same site that nearly sunk Vodafone buildings many years back. There would then be an average attendance in Newbury of about 5,500 people. Now they have given up on 4 of the buildings and retained only 3, one of them is the centre of the Network Operation Centre so they can't easily drop that one. The staff have been told to stay permanently working from home. I live in Newbury and now rarely come across anyone working at the now amusingly called "HQ". THis company is dead in the water in Berkshire, may as well move it to Rwanda and save a few bob.
I think we should expect Reid to go anytime now, has anyone got the full article without a paywall where some unknown analyst has managed single-handedly to put a share price into reverse just before a 7% divi, you cant make this company up. Everything that happens to them is just always the worse case scenario, we should be enjoying a nice now before it loses 4 to 5 p tomorrow. We should all pray to Mecca that the Arabs save us.
It is truly horrible, I don't know how he can look himself in the mirror the appalling mismanagement the chaotic over paying on M&A, the inability of IT systems correct in Germany, the fruitless pursuit of the runt of the mobile litter, 3 as if that will be good or even allowed, the miserable sale of the family silver, It's truly pathetic. Our only hope is Etilsalat. He has the gall to ask for cost cutting whilst lining his next for a happy retirement . BTW Dan, I don't work for Vodafone, and so what if I did which I don't
It's quite clear that Reid is totally out of his depth. When he asks for cost cutting it does not include his unearned rising salarly and bonuses. If you work for Vod bonuses are carefully calibrated against your performance, so how does he get away with it? The vultures are circling for him and hope he resigns out of decency but of course he won't. The good news is Eti who paid 1.30 for just under 10% were unable to launch for the rest as they said they would not when they bought them. That was 6 months ago, now they can put in a bid, if they offer 1.30 for the rest i'd vote yes and rid myself of this carp
sad or not he has to go. Every results day there is a "new" surprise and he sits there saying everything is good when we know it isn't. He has lost all credibility
I would be happy to pay him off, we can't recover under him.
You are right Dan, better for you and your ilk to spout daily BS about the big rise expected this morning based on a totally incorrect logic regarding the Nas overnight, stick to the silly price guesses and keep knocking Mikey, he is all you have
Very wise Mikey, we've all been taken for mugs by Reid, total failure, even Cevian have sneaked out the back door after their fanfare arrival, nothing more than BS to create noise and get out they have given up on Reid too.
Total waste of tme, switch off and hope for a 1.100 takeover in a tears time,
goodbye and good luck
lol you remoaner fools just never give up do you. as for a buyout threat it is not a threat is is the golden goose, It is the only thing that will save us. Nick reid the perpetual doom monger of deals has proved to be totally incompetent. I was at Vodafone when he was CFO and turned down Apple who wanted to break the mould with a revenue share to go on Vod network as a first timer, he said no.
Absolutely terrific news, yes they cannot bid for Vod for at least 6 months having said they are not intending to on this buy.
These guys have serious money, they are in it for the long haul after the oil has gone, Mr Read will be quaking in his boots tonight, this is another step closer to his exit.
So where do they get these shares from? Is it a cash injection via treasury sales? How do you buy that much on the opern market? Anyone know?
TO think that a merger will g be announced during this war is perhaps one of the most naïve statements I have seen on here. There is absolutely no point trying to add a few p to the price when it can be lost in seconds by a loose bomb. dear oh dear. It is not going to happen for a while now
