RE: Cow Apocalypse.3 Jun 2020 22:19
It's an investment company - it generally takes small percentage stakes in pre-revenue start-ups (mainly in US) in the new cultivated meat industry (cultivating meat, fish, cotton etc from cells in vitro) as opposed to plant based "meat" products.
The risk is most investee companies are pre revenue and some will no doubt fail. Also because they are pre-revenue ANIC earns no income and has to periodically raise funds from shareholders.
But if ANIC backs a winner e.g. Blue Nanu or Bond Pet Food then the rewards could be significant when the investee floats on the market via IPO. In the US they float for $billions unlike our cash strapped stockmarket.
ANIC has some legacy investments from the previous management which it says it will dispose of - the sooner the better as they don't appear to be doing well the last time I looked.
The big attraction of ANIC is supposedly the involvement of Richard Reed who took Innocent Drinks from a £100 market stall business to its sale to Coca Cola for £300m - does anyone know if R Reed holds any shares in ANIC??
I am not currently invested but may change my mind depending on news flow.
