Dunelm Group's Finance Director, David Stead, has traded in 43,460 of the 85,215 shares he received after exercising options under the company's long-term incentive plan at no cost. Stead, who joined the homeware chain in 2003, traded in the shares at 679.40p, earning £295,267, which he used to fund the tax and national insurance liability on the options. He then transferred 41,755 ordinary shares to his wife, Jane Stead, at no cost.

Tempus writes that UBM's nine-month trading statement proved more enervating than this week’s Informa numbers, with overall sales up 4 per cent at £735 million and like-for-like growth up 5 per cent. Adjusted operating profit grew 11 per cent to £142 million and the company maintained its guidance for underlying growth of up to 5 per cent and improved margins to more than 19.3 per cent. UBM entered the year boasting of a steep discount to peers but a strong run since summer — with shares up more than a third since early June — has closed that window. Management has taken the bold step to cut adrift data services, but the shares, which trade at 12.5 times projected profit, look up with events. Hold until the data services deal is done.

Valuation: Inbuilt growth not recognised The Vertu share price has performed strongly over the past three months and responded positively to the results announcement. The prospective rating is much in line with other dealership groups, but fails to recognise the potential as recent acquisitions move towards optimising their trading performance.

The market reaction to Aggreko's third-quarter trading update on Friday was far from positive, but analysts on the whole have retained their upbeat long-term stances on the stock with the majority recommending investors to 'buy on weakness'.

Shares in luxury fashion group Burberry were registering gains on Friday morning in London after Investec returned to its bullish stance on the stock and upgraded its rating from 'hold' to 'buy'. Investec said: "The Burberry brand is far from broken, operational leverage should come through, and, whilst volatility will remain, we see long-term value here."

Paul Hampden Smith, who has been the Finance Director at Travis Perkins since 1996, has reduced his stake in the building materials supplier following the announcement of his retirement plans last Friday. The sales, which were announced after the close on Friday, were made between October 16th and 17th over eight separate transactions, of which six related directly to shares belonging to his wife, Sarah Hampden Smith. Altogether 68,800 shares were sold for an average price of 1,109.09p for a total of £763,054.

Panmure Gordon has retained its 'buy' rating for cash and carry chain Booker after the firm's better-than-anticipated interim results and synergies expected from the Makro deal. The broker said that since returning to the stock market, Booker has delivered strong earnings and dividend growth and cash generation. "We think that the addition of Makro will enhance Booker's growth and we remain buyers of the shares with a target price of 108p."

Jefferies has maintained its 'hold' rating and 1,220p target price for transport group Go-Ahead, saying that while the new target for bus profits should be well-received, there is still some uncertainty surrounding rail franchises. Go-Ahead said that bus operating profit should grow to £100m by 2015/2016, which Jefferies says is "feasible" as long as there is a "step change in performance". Analyst Joe Spooner said that this new target "should be well received as the observation to date has been that the group has needed rail to provide the cushion in its dividend cover, but rail faces the uncertainty of expiring franchises. The new target implies existing rail profits will be replaced by bus by FY16."

Significant events and financial position On 10th October 2012, the Company held the official opening of its manufacturing facility at Miskin, South Wales, where 68,500 square feet has been refurbished and is operational. There has been no significant capital expenditure or any other significant events during the period. The Group balance sheet remains strong with net cash balances, excluding the escrow account relating to security for the UK defined benefit pension scheme, at 30th September 2012 of £18.4m (30th June 2012 £21.1m). As David Snowden and Terry Garthwaite have each completed nine years on the Board, they will not be seeking re-election at the AGM today. The Board is very grateful for their considerable contributions to the Group. As announced on 10th October 2012 Carol Chesney, a chartered accountant and company secretary at the manufacturing group Halma plc, will be joining the Board on 19th October 2012 as non-executive director and chair of the Audit Committee. Interim management statement This statement has been prepared for the Group and relates to the three months ended 30th September 2012. It contains unaudited information that covers the first quarter and the period since. Trading activity I am pleased to report that as we expected there was strong growth for the three months to 30th September 2012, with revenue achieving a first quarter record of £95.9m, an increase of £25.4m, or 36%, over the £70.5m for the first quarter of the previous year. By business segment, our metrology business reported revenue growth of 38% ahead of last year reflecting major sales to the consumer electronics industry and our healthcare revenue was at a similar level to the comparable period last year. Geographically, the Far East, specifically China, more than doubled its revenue for this quarter compared to the corresponding period last year. Revenue for Europe and the Americas were broadly in line with last year and the UK, a smaller geographical area in terms of revenue, showed a 27% increase. The Group cost base has continued to increase with additional, mainly engineering, staff to support its growing revenue and demand for production resource, along with increasing investment in its research and development programmes. Group headcount at the end of September 2012 was 3,018, an increase of 114 from the 2,904 at the start of the financial year at 1st July 2012. Profit before tax for the first quarter amounted to £28.3m, compared with £13.6m last year, an increase of £14.7m, or 108%.

Co-O MINE SHAFTS UPDATE (ASX & LSE: MML) Medusa Mining Limited ("Medusa" or the "Company"), through its Philippines operating company Philsaga Mining Corporation is pleased to advise that the Baguio Shaft was re-commissioned last week, with an increased haulage capacity of 350 tonnes per day (up previously from 250 tonnes per day). The Saga Shaft reached its target depth of 350 metres in the first week of September. With the plat cut and prepared, work on excavation of the loading chute, work shop areas and other facilities are well underway. The new winder and skips for the Saga Shaft are scheduled to be commissioned late in December.

UBM plc builds its events business in Turkey Acquires 70% stake in EFEM, organiser of the leading baby product tradeshow in Turkey UBM plc today announces it has acquired a 70% equity share in EFEM, one of Turkey's leading tradeshow organisers from its private owners and has formed a joint venture company with EFEM to be called UBM ICC. UBM ICC will develop EFEM's existing baby products shows and will further expand UBM's global portfolio of baby product exhibitions. Following this transaction, UBM will run a total of eight events in Turkey in 2013, three of which will be new geo-adapted launch events. UBM has consistently invested in the development of its event portfolio in fast-growing markets and geographies. In 2011 UBM generated 40% of its events revenues in emerging markets. Working with in-country joint venture partners to bring together local market knowledge and experience with UBM's international capabilities and resources, UBM has built a track record of successfully accelerating the development of existing local events. UBM has also successfully launched new versions of existing UBM tradeshows adapted to meet local market needs and the need of international visitors and exhibitors, a process known as geo-adaptation.
