Nadine Dorries book on Boris Johnson’s “political assassination” is to be released just days before the Tory conference in the autumn.

The loyal ally of the former PM has announced a deal with Harper Collins to publish in late September – threatening to reopen old wounds at the party’s October conference in Manchester.

The former culture secretary – who has vowed to quit parliament but is yet to formally resign – promised to reveal the “dark arts” behind Mr Johnson’s removal from No 10.

Ms Dorries has previously claimed that Rishi Sunak was “largely” behind the “ruthless coup” which saw her boss pushed out in July 2022.

Our UK elected representatives seem to be in it far too obviously for themselves, and the taxpayer is entitled to ask questions – especially at a time when the average person is struggling to pay their mortgage, heat their home or even feed themselves.

As we are about to discover, they also treat themselves to a six-week break in the summer, plus a few weeks each more at Easter, May, Whitsun and Christmas. No doubt much constituency work is done in these holidays, as well as unmissable fact-finding trips abroad – but it is far, far away from the normal working arrangements of their hard-pressed constituents.

MPs’ pensions are on generous final salary terms – a rarer luxury now – and their pay set by an independent but sympathetic review body, and far distant from market forces. Needless to add, it is unrelated to performance. Even with a volatile electorate, they enjoy more job security than most and, with still-substantial housing subsidies, don’t need to concern themselves overmuch about the inflation, mortgage rates and cost of living crisis they preside over. The “Westminster Bubble” is a cliche, but there is a little too much detachment and entitlement going on.

I was they really should publish a 'Mining plan" for all these projects giving full details evidently they aren't obligated to do so because they are London ftse 250 listed, this is one of the reasons mining companies like to be London listed as on other exchanges they are legally required to give more details to shareholders etc when trying to reel them in!

Makes it easier for mining companies to bull*hit investors , "Gild the Lilley" and gloss over the cracks in their statements!

I just hoe we aren't going to get shafted again, but I won't be surprised if we are!

Oh subsequent events over the years have certainly proven that investors have ben bulls*tted and deceived on all manner of issues and Andrew Pardey knowingly ied to me on two occasions , that said the other members of the BOD where either not carrying out their responsibilities with due diligence, or where not adequately professionally qualified for their position, or were complicit, or condoned the deception of shareholders and the market, thay may of course been watching the seagulls out of the boardroom window which is why the the share price is around a third of what it once was and the dividend is halved!

So what has really changed we have a new CEO who claims he wants to (Reset) that's marketing jargon for turning the company around whilst most of those who where all so complicit in the catalogue of complacency and complete ineptness in the dereliction of their duties keep their heads down and hope we will forget!

Rather than reiterating the same old ""good times coming|" sometime when via very slick and speedy presentations and publishing pages and pages of details to troll through on each quarterly updater then why not present just where we are in regards to the biggest brick on the share price "The waste clearance" in a simplified format and on a rolling basis?

I think the CEO should be updating us shareholders on when the AISC are going to drop very considerably ,after all the solar plant is now commissioned , the modified truck trays and tyres have been fitted to plant been and we are a good three years into the waste clearance so Capital at least should have some good idea when they are likely to be finished.

Also how is the progress on the crucially important underground workings, has the access egress been unproved and what of the "Bonanza grades" have they been encountere or where they just wishful thinking?

I take your point on the difference between Wahgnion and Konkera (etc), but that said thee majoritu of us retail investors cant be expected to know that which is why I have asked Centamin that very question, possibly they will reply ,but I won't be holding my breath from recent experience!

The piece below from another Centamin share holder seems to imply that that Martin Horgan CEO and BOD may not have fully explored adequately all avenues of some financial return on the Burkina Faso?

Getting some money back it would have saved Centamin having to secure lime of credit and possibly meant that the dividend didn't need to be halved!

If this is true then $300 million would certainly gone towards paying for clearance of the Sukari waste!

Whatever the truth then more informative communications would certainly improve long-term shareholders sentiment

If past experience is anything to go by they will still be talking in a decade about what Eygpt should or could do, but of course that depends on if political will is really there to actually allow international businesses to get on with developing these lucrative areas!

But as we are all aware the Egyptian politicians are so worried that they may have to come to some sensible compromises. or heaven forbid be expected to share equally,or even contribute in some way financially towards exacting this mineral wealth!

They don't really trust us foreigners at all, Oh no the Egyptian politicians want someone else Us) to take all the risks and when appropriate the sh*t end of the stick, with of course the occasional good kick in the crotch of a legal challenge of two whist smiling in our faces and taking all the profits!

Martin Horgan and his fellow directors will have never ending meetings and go through the motions of slick presentations claiming that good times are around the corner in order to reel in the gullible investors (that's us) so that they can continue to receive their handsome remuneration and bonuses!

In the past I have given Centamin the benefit if the doubt on more occasions than I care to remember and yet despite all the promises when Martin Horgan took over what has really changed, nothing that has benefitted us shareholders in any way, a halved dividend and a share price that's over 60% down!

Over the past two or three years I have sent Centamin IR many emails stating the facts as apparent to me and asking reasonable questions, the vast majority remain ignored, in fact all but one since the new PR company took over and that was answered in a patronising manner by Centamin IR!

So I have taken off the rose tinted sunglasses and must say that the Martin Horgan and his fellow directors are taking us for fools, whilst the Eygptian government does the same foreign investors!

I have no faith in Centamin at all until I see some proof to the contrary that we shareholders aren't being shafted yet again!

True Centamin should have some advantage of knowing how things work in Eygpt , well its time they started to shake a leg and get on with things with some sense of urgency rather than just talking about what might be sometime down the road!

Hi Paul,

Absolutely Paul Centamin know how things work in Eygpt and were certainly not guilty of upsetting any apple-carts, on the contrary they seemed to be walking as though on broken glass, even contributing to the Egyptian economy with advance payments in some instances over and above above the terms of the Sukari concession, that despite its legality being challenged in a court case lasting over 12 years! which detrimentally affected the share price for a number of years!

So why now when other mining companies Barrick doesn't seem that bothered whilst others are already having second thoughts about progressing with developing new mines and with B2 throwing in the towel shouldn't Centamin start to fight its corner a bit more, or is there something we aren't being told?

My main complaint is the lack of ongoing meaningful and detailed information from the company, such as when will there be the much promised substantial fall off in AISC!

Centamin seem to be going back to their old ways of treating retail investors like mushrooms whilst applying copious amounts of the same old bullsh*t at quarterly intervals!

If things are going so well in Egypt why are companies like B2 throwing in the towel and why no sense of any urgency developing the areas adjacent to Sukari?

It may sound good during presentations to churn out the same old ureteric but in reality Cote d’Ivoire projects are years away from being producing assets (if progressed at all!)

Cant imagine whet anyone would want to visit those awful Disney Parks, or watch most of the films for that, why not let children experience the real world of nature instead!

All well and good to launch an alternative reserve currency backed by gold, but the FED Cartel will likely not care a jot and just spank the price of gold down using paper sells on the Comex.

The market doesn't care if its paper as long as they can shuffle it up and down!

Interesting, but also rather depressing as it confirms that nothing has really changed that much in Eygpt and in the light of the lack of news possibly not in Centamin either!

But it seems that B2Gold has completely given up the ghost in Egypt from what I have heard from a well informed acquaintance and as here is no mention of Egypt on their website for instance (https://www.b2gold.com/projects/exploration/other/).

Barrick may remain but they are not making any noise about this either (also nothing on their website) – that said though they have such a vast portfolio they probably don’t need to!

So what of Centamin’s relationship is with the Egyptian government, hard to say but there really should have been far more progress by now if they really are working as partners!

But from all that is apparent at present neither Centamin or EMRA seem to be any hurry to progress the awarded concession sites, which is pity, as Cote d’Ivoire projects are years away from being producing assets (if progressed at all of course!).

Dreadful BBC interview with CEO of the NHS Amanda Pritchard. She herself earns £86,000 but refuses to support decent wages for doctors and nurses.

The independent MP Diane Abbott tweeted on Sunday 2 July that the NHS England chief executive earns £86,000.

Assuming Ms Abbott was talking about an annual salary or annual earnings, this is not correct. The real figure is much higher.

The most recent NHS England accounts show that the chief executive, Amanda Pritchard, earned £255,000-260,000 in 2021/22, having moved from the job of chief operating officer on 1 August, with additional pension-related benefits of about £74,000.

Some Twitter users also made this point in an attached community note.

For context, Ms Pritchard’s earnings are much higher than the average pay for doctors or nurses, and roughly double the mean annual earnings for a consultant.

However, it is also much lower than the pay of some other people who lead large organisations.

For instance the base pay of Tim Davie, the director-general of the BBC, was £494,000 in the same year, and the TUC reports that chief executives of FTSE-100 companies were paid an average of £4.26 million in 2021. Research by PwC said that the average total pay for FTSE-100 CEOs was £3.9 million in 2021/22.

Ms Abbott’s tweet was posted shortly after Ms Pritchard had finished an interview on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg. Ms Pritchard did not express an opinion on doctors’ or nurses’ wages during the interview. She said on two occasions [13:30, 15:30] that “pay is a matter for government and the unions”.

Politicians must use accurate figures when describing the pay of public servants, so people get a true picture of how public money is being used.
