shutts - I was trying to post earlier (but the site was playing up), just to say that I stand up from the back of the crowd and applaud your earlier words of wisdom regarding investments.... very good...stoicism at its very best. I sit back down...
Also, not seen Black Monday - but loved Big Short and also recently (the same team) Vice - which is great.
Funny - but on your topic, I know Wulbert asked the other day ref investor psychology.... I have to admit that I re-jigged much of my portfolio today based on HUR the last 2 days...to a state where I feel more relaxed about it....and that's great... Funny thing is that my (as with other folks') pension portfolio most likely takes hits like this all the time but I don't know about it so don't care....But when it's my own account traded and in my face all day long on the screen at work - then it gives me the highs/lows... The trick, as you say, is seeing through the tunnel to the pot of gold at the end...
Anyway.... I'll click 'post' now and see if the site is actually working or if this is another wasted spout of typing....
Good evening to all....
Shutts.... I stand up from the back of the room and applaud your wise words.... And now I sit back down....
SG - agree.....but I have to say I think the big impact yesterday was the USA data about their inventories (a 30 year high).... We would have had our day if it had not been for that.... I think this is trading like a commodity now, without any speculation on potential in the fields.... Brent up a little today and meetings in Russia today which hope to be good... oil producers have said they will stabilise the price.... IMHO I think yesterday was purely a reaction to USA stockpile data. BWTFDIK.... Good luck for today all....
I heard that also... They cited compliance burdens, which is true.... Whilst I would love to see this on main market what killed it today is the USA data on the thirty year high for stockpiles.... Main market listing is not going to stop that, unfortunately. Let's hope the oil prices stabilise, then all okay... Imo.
InJames... I'm no expert but I think the short positions are publicly available so you can look them up.... I don't believe the share is heavily shorted (not by serious folk anyway, but I stand to be corrected if I'm wrong on that)....?
Sorry - first post of the day and just back from being a wage slave for the day (and it was a crap day), so catching up here and unraveling my thoughts on an SP that feels like it's been drugged at a seedy night club and taken home by a couple of 'untowards'....then tossed out into the street to find its way home...without even a bus fare....
And that doesn't sit right because today was Hurricane's day....something so significant and positive and it didn't deserve to finish down.....But with Poo hitting the fan then I guess it is going to be this way for now....and I can accept that, as an investor looking for long term gains.
Anyway... I remain hugely positive (for PoO as well as HUR).....and happy to remain a part.
Meanwhile I miss the days of just reading the expert posts on rope types, flow rates etc ....the anticipation was better than the event (like my marriage).....
Anyways - good luck and good evening to all, and thanks as always for the expert advice and updates.... Here's to a better day tomorrow....
Hmmmm.... Meditations on first oil... I like that.... Nice.... Thanks to all for the expertise on the technical side today... I find it very interesting although it is not my field.... tired now so second star on the right and straight on until morning and news....thanks again all
YuYus - at the risk of sounding like the shy little kid in the class...I'm really tentatively putting my hand up and meekly asking "will this have an impact on availability of data over the next week, as anticipated?"....and there, I'm snapping my hand down again in shame at asking a silly question.... All in all the news and thoughts I'm hearing sound very positive - but couldn't assess what to expect from this technical 'mechanical reason'... Thanks...
But reading 58.05 on other sites....a glitch....
Yes... I'm also seeing that.....
Good call Chablard.....only one important thing this week....and all we can say of Trump is he clearly is a LTH in HUR since he's timed his visit to tie in with the good news... :-) (smiley face)... Not long now... Good week to all....
If you're looking for a great movie to watch for the inside on Rumsfield and pals then cannot recommend Vice enough.... Great movie, great translation of what is probably going on in the white house right now....maybe....who knows.... Good weekend all...
Wulbert
"Thanks Mr Fox. The psychology is very interesting to me. "
Yep, I totally agree - I could chat about investor psychology all day (it is nearly the weekend after all).... HUR has really fixated me and its position in my portfolio has redeemed the disaster that was the Nasdaq last December... I've learnt a lot.... And now eagerly anticipating learning more from all the data next week and relying on the various experts posting here... I find it fascinating. And you're spot on - learning about a company and how it ticks is all important.... I think why I love Games Workshop so much (I'm an avid collector since it reminds me of my younger days back in the 70s and 80s)...
Anyway, here's looking to holding my nerve next time the PoO hits the fan and a great week coming up....and not to mention whiling away the weekend reading off topic posts... Have a good one all....
Wulbert - I confess to trying to guess the market this morning after watching bad news story after bad news story (aka Trump Street).... Thought we could be in for a sharper drop than we have seen so far.... After the gain yesterday the psychology not to lose got hold of me....but then having sold the psychology of FOMO got hold of me, so I bought back in at exactly the same amount and pretty much the same price.... I guess, in answer to your question, that this makes up a lot of my portfolio, and in the current climate of struggling US markets I've consolidated down to about 5 stocks - all winners so far...although I'm not proud of myself since I'm making money on Oil and USA Defence (I'll offset my conscience by buying Tesla).... I think the psychology is that I feel so strongly on HUR that I just don't want to not be a part of it... It's also a great community here btw. I'm annoyed with myself since now my double digit gain (in %) is single digits - and that also plays on the mind.... Anyway - it's all in the mind - at the end of the day it's worth what someone will pay for it.... Look at UBER - posted $1bn loss but shares up 1.65%.... Needless to say the darling of my portfolio is my beloved Games Workshop (got to love toy soliders)....but Hurricane, in my opinion, is the one that is going to help me sleep well at night a month from now. Hope that answers your question...for what its worth. Good day to all....
Another morning of news on Trump's policy to 'Make America Alone Again'.... He and Zi need to get a room (my clever title, if you saw how I did that)... Now Mexican Trade tariffs announced for October and POO taking a hammering... Makes a China USA deal seem tougher.... They need to sort their ##p out....POO does't like it. Also German data out today at 13:00UK time.... That wasn't great news last time and not expecting roses today...might drag further POO into the poo.... But, let's see...HUR has this, I believe, I believe! Right - I'm afraid us wage slaves off to the office now - have a great day all and wishing luck all round....
BlooBird - agree with you on all counts.... I seem to recall about two months ago there was a press article and the next day followed an early +4% rise....settled by eod. Same today, I suspect, but bolder because of imminent good news. MS's statement is clever in that it sets out stages for good news uplifts over the next few months...and it is good news that drives up the SP - gets a bit of FOMO going. Interestingly I suspect there are some new investors today who bought higher than the close and will be seeing red in their portfolio on this.... That's not bad for longer term holders...those new holders (assuming they were) will want to stay until they see their 30%+ return. All in all looking good. Worth noting thought that, under Company Law, the AGM is not necessarily set out as the time for answering detailed questions from investors.... it's function is to approve accounts, vote in auditors and re-elect directors....(and the corporate action per the agenda of course)... Whilst I feel confident that it will be good and detailed news, before the AGM and on the day....it is possible that we have to wait....But, I'm fine with that also....the oil isn't going anywhere. However, I defer to the esteemed experts posting here who will be much better versed than I with what to expect next week. Have a great evening all.....and is this Frits guy gonna stop ruining my entertainment of this truly excellent BB! Thanks to all, as always, for expert advice and healthy, wealthy banter.
Agree with Candydog's perfectly described sentiment....
Itsaponzi, you might be surprised to know (and I speak with vast experience on this topic), how much more of an interest, than you clearly realise, that Regulators look into the actions of folk posting messages on these BBs where such are designed to move the SP....which you clearly are so doing..... just saying.... Now go short Tesla why don't you - try and lose some more money that way.
mrmisterfoxPosts: not so manyOpinion: Being patient day by day....bring on next weekPrice: Watching POO today....a bit poo.........but at least the rain today will mean I don't have to water the garden....
Jiffy... "Someone on this BB mentioned this documentary a week or so ago" Yep, unless someone else also mentioned that would have been me... What an amazing documentary.... It didn't make me miss diving! Incredible mindset those guys have.... Now my second favourite documentary just behind 'Man on Wire', and slightly ahead of 'How to Tame your Dragon', although my son still claims that one is a cartoon.... Nonsense. Anyway, the weather has beaten me again, a vanilla weekend and now blazing sun shine as I am about to wander into town and the office...but at least the view will be nice on the way in. All the best for this week...and next...Happy Tuesday.
I think I look forward to following this BB on the weekends more than I do during a week of +SP%+.... I'm at an age where I probably need glasses but am too stubborn to let go of the few things about myself that still work unaided....consequently I just read AJBJ's post as " carbon in a life form is found within the farts..." In fact the whole thread makes me want to just pop in there my second favourite Blackadder quote: "so which one of us is the porpoise?"....my favourite being "left a note in my diary on the way here...simply read bug#er".... That one I was going to post last Thursday morning from work as I tried to accept that the price of Brent was indeed red and not green (the glasses thing again).... Anyway...I will sit back and wait for the next crazy weekend thread... some of you guys need to write books...I'd buy 'em. Thanks for the entertainment and good weekend all....here's hoping for shiny shoes Tuesday a.m.
Thanks... I also just want to take this opportunity to name and shame my brother....who panicked this morning and sold, like the chicken he is....and has just bought back in..... Chunky - you can pay for your own bottle of wine next time. That's not how we play.
