What we need to look at is what CICG has bought , though a green field the area is taking a lot of interest and licences being granted for rich minerals ,

Ambassador Addleton`s remarks .
Thank you -- I appreciate this opportunity to visit Dornogovi, one of several Mongolian aimags dominated by the Gobi Desert.
As some of you may know, I lived in Mongolia several years ago, serving as USAID country director during 2001-2004. Returning to Dornogovi as US Ambassador nearly seven years later, it is clear that this aimag, along with the rest of Mongolia, is facing rapid change.
During my previous tour of duty with USAID, we were involved in a number of programs including the Gobi Initiative, the establishment of XacBank and the revitalization of XaanBank. It is gratifying to see that both banks have branches here in Sainshand and that Mercy Corps continues to support business development activities that were initially funded under the Gobi Initiative.
While this trip focuses on Dornogovi, in recent months I have had opportunities to visit other Gobi aimags, including Dundgovi and Omnogovi. In each case, I have been impressed by the insights, perspectives, and understanding provided by people who know the region best – those who live there.
That is why I am especially pleased to meet with you today, representing as you do a mix of government officials who are the leaders of this generation and students who will become the leaders of the next one.
Those of you who are government officials have an important task during an especially critical period in Mongolia’s history. Indeed, the decisions that you make now will shape the development of Dornogovi for many years to come. The quality of those decisions will also determine the type of Mongolia that this generation of students inherits a decade from now.

Much of the international press is focused on the major mining deposits in Omngovi aimag, most notably the copper and gold deposits at Oyu Tolgoi and the coal deposits at Tavan Tolgoi.
Yet these world class mining projects will also have a significant impact on the future of Dornogovi.
Omnogovi Aimag is a good example of the rapid increase in mining and associated development. In
2005 there was only one large mining operation, Tavan Tolgoi – Ukhaa Khudag (UHG). Today there are
