Protestors Jailed27 Sep 2018 14:00
I can't say I am not surprised. I work in very large scale construction, we build power stations that burn waste. including land fill. So these stations are actually cleaning the environment while burning everything that can't be recycled. All the old coal fired stations are being demolished. Nevertheless we had protestors against these new power stations too.
I have no problem with protesting, because at some point we all may need to protest, perhaps to a school closure, a local service, a hospital closure etc. What these FANATICAL protestors don't see, is that by being reckless, disruptive and in some cases down right violent, gives the Government incentive to increase its powers against ALL protests and of any kind.
Climbing on moving lorries, or static vehicles about to move away is highly dangerous. On our construction sites if the driver climbs on the vehicle without any form of fall protection, then they are red carded and removed/barred from site. Vehicle falls and collisions with public/workforce is a major killer in the industry.
These protetors are only thinking of themselves too. What about the driver who will most probably end up a nervous wreck if he injures/kills someone. Are they thinking of the trauma that guy will go through being interviewed under caution by the Police and HSE. its not nice. And in the event of a fatality, he has to live with that for the rest of his life.
I see people calling these jailed protestors "Heroes". WELL you can take that hero quote and shove it. That accolade has been reserved for real heroes who fought their way up beaches. The category of hero will never fit in the quote box of football players or hooligan and stupid risk taking protestors.
