This stock is in a rut and going nowhere anytime soon.

This stock is a puzzle.

You have noticed that there is a crisis underway in the Asia Pacific rim. MMs are not the brightest bucnh, and sheep farming comes to mind when considering their behaviour. How that crisis plays out will depend on luck and the diligence and determination of the Japanese. If they can contain the problem, then this stock will bounce smartly, in common with many others that are bargains at present.

It is men of ambition, daring, and cash-rich who build the tallest sky-scrapers. - Goodick luck with all your investing. Stick to whatever works for you,. After all, as you well know (?), investing is a psychological game, not a tactical one. Ask Zen if you have any questions or queries on that one.

I admire your discipline, and commend your strategy highly. However, this is the stock market, and its behaviour is irrational. Given this fact, there is no fundamental reason, or breach of a principle, if you bend a little from time to time. Like the tallest skyscrapaer, they have a certain amout of yielding in order to stay upright! - Good luck with your investing, and go with what you believe in, are comfortable with and, ultimately, whatever works for you.

I can't see where the floor is on this one. A classic case of irrational market makers. Intelligence sourly lacking all round. But there it is.

That last trade was an 'Uncrossing trade' which inviolves the post market settlement actions and no pointer to Monday. Risk sentiment will determine what happens to this stock in the future (or any favorable results on the R & trials front)

Qatar...? I don't see that on the horizon at all. Qatar are eyeing Sainsbury's. MKS would need the likes of a Philip Green to mount a takeover -but given the revent bad press of tax dodgeing/avoidance, this seems unlikely. MKS willl have to muster growth from its own resources, which it is perfectly able to do. Where the market decides to take the share price in the short term is anyone's guess, though.

The yield on this stock make current bank interest rates appear comparatively generous. Together with the banks, the prices for these assets, is absurd. Sooner or later reality must kick in. - If you manage to make it pay, well done and good luck. But the world is only ever crazy up to a point.

Personally, I would have waiting a wee bit longer. But that's just me!

I do not like the sound of the reports that a judge is questioning the settlement BAE reached with the SFO. It seems like this judge is determined to dig up dirt on BAE. This is an unnecessary distraction.

This company's operations look decidedly 'iffy' to me, but you must ultimately be your own judge. I was going to take a small punt here, but will keep peace of mind and go skiing instead. Good luck with your investing, and I hope it pays off for you.

Thanks for your insights and take on things. In general, I would class myself as more of a 'psychological' trader. I take account of the technicals, but as I am thinking of filliing up my ISA allowance this year with all shares (interest rates too low to hold cash there) I will continue with my intended plan as there is a lot of volatility out there - a lot of it rumour based, media 'doomsday' hyperbole, etc. So, given the prevailing sentiment, in this case I will wait until my target it reached, and then top up my ISA.

I hope your buying-in point proves advantageous to you. I would be interested to know at what point you feel is a good time to jump on board. I am assuming you are considering this as an investment vehicle, and not a day trading manoeuvre.

Market makers can make a real meal of companies like these. For what it is worth, I am holding out for another 7 or 8 percent drop before dipping in. If I miss the boat, then, well.... that's life. Good luck with your trading.

Commiserations and sympathy to all those who stock holders who have suffered as a result of ROK's demise. The same is extended to the employees of that firm, but there is encouraging signs that parts of the business will be snapped up by competitors, and thus (at least some) jobs saved. It is unfortunate that we may see more such episodes before the economy inally turns the corner.

This company is not Lucent or GE or Siemans or Corning or Nokia. These companies are HUGE. BATM modest limited (but talented) team need to concentrate on a few well-defined areas in which they excell, and resist embarking on other ventures. It's wise to license products and technologies to other companies in these sectors, but to embark on manufacturing for healthcare takes time, effort, and a great deal of long term investment. On that basis, will the company be inclined to pay dividends or put it's cash into R & D? Watch the shareprice.

Personally, I on't think it is a wise and rational not to spread one's limited resources too widely. It is far better to concentrate one's forces and assets (strengths) in a few critical (and strategic) areas, and master the market and technology. So, I am standing back and just watching at the moment, and am not dipping in my toe (yet??) I much prefer a company like this to focus on the telco sector. Just my view.

BAE is diversifying is business from over-wieght on big items towards lots of smaller companies making niche products. News of possible disposable of some non-core assets in the USA, with GE and Lockheed in the bidding. Defence is a developing arena. All the big contracts in the Arabia are being gobbled up by the Americans. The most that BAE will get from this is subcontracting work. I think here in the UK, the MOD wants to see a less vertical (a few large players) and more horizontal (more players) in the defence arena, as that is good for exports, collaboration, and employment.

Photonics both a growing and competitive arena. Perhaps BVC is currently in a stationary 'hold' position for a while yet. Time will tell.
