Unfortunately those circumstances are not in their gift as the political process has overtaken any common sense and has moved from a fiscal battering to what might cut domestic production and eventually sever any income to the Treasury. Despite their best efforts the 220,000 people in the industry are at risk and in the most senseless of political crusades. The idea that the world won’t need fossil fuels any time soon is mad enough but to lose an efficient industry on the basis of vague notions of a carbon free future is made worse by the thoughts of 20 years to come of importing dirty hydrocarbons from halfway round the world and all in the name of the climate crisis.

Excellent post DU. Surely our politicians are not blind/deaf to this type of issue - New Zealand is not a 3rd world country - just pure negligence to ignore this issue and the impact fuel shortage and blackouts could have.

They will continue to pay the juicy dividend, but after this year it will grow at 2% rather than 5%. They will be buying back £200m of shares and they intend to repeat the buy back programme through to 2027. With interest rates expected to be on a downward trend (when the BOE have the guts to act) these may well do well, new analyst updates will arrive in the coming days, and I expect the target sp to be in excess of 280p.

IOM windfall tax will be imposed on banks - the catalyst for these will be "share buybacks". I also think this will not be an issue until the stake in Nat West has been sold, and that looks to be delayed now until after the election.

Of sellers today for MS to snap up cheap LLOY shares - no great rush there will be a lot more available over the coming 6 weeks.
