RE: Russian Economy In Tatters?13 Oct 2025 10:37
Tricky, I'm not sure if you're being ironic, or agreeing with my previous comments...
Russian banks are only being propped up by the 16% interest it charges domestically. Try getting your money out of a Russian bank and let me know how you get on!
Unemployment is being reported at 2.1%, but given the number now employed by the military, those that fled the country to avoid draft, remain unregistered to avoid draft and that many businesses are now furloughing staff, one really does need to take this with a massive 'pinch of salt'.
Corruption, I assume we're not talking about the billions or maybe even trillions extorted by Russian oligarchs and Putin himself?
The fact that we could not ask a 'typical Russian' and expect an honest answer, answers your point about liberalism. Whilst we have more than a few problems currently re free speech and social media use, the Russian experience gives us some context.
