If I was a politically motivated major miner, ( they all are)I would put in a counter bid regardless. Either way, you are going to get a tiei 1 cheap or you are going to make the Chinese pay more. Win win.
I thought the rationale for keeping solg after their divestment, was because they see it as valuable or something they might want themselves? Even more reason for them not to sell their shares cheaply if at all to the Chinese.
I still can't get over Cadwell saying he would sell for 23p in an interview with David chang around a year ago. What plant was he on? So glad he is not CEO now.
I can't think of a good reason why BHP and Newcrest would sell their shares to the Chinese cheaply, even if they had no interest themselves in buying the assets

I thought Redknight was one of the better reads on this board during the long periods of nothing happening . I found He and his wife's claims of how many shares they had quite funny. He was never nasty to anyone either, despite the stick he took.
I first invested in solg in 2013. Ive sold a few, and bought a few over the years. I never had the guts to walk away although I wanted to many times. Its been a long journey ( so far)
