Up to last week it had been copper which had gone well ahead.However,both zinc and lead showed up better in the last few days.Even aluminium despite too high supply showed some life.The major dark horse was oil,still available at a low, but potentially a winner sometime,though a recession means low comsumption.Watch gold,as it will need to fall to show better confidence.Uranium and nickel are hanging back too.

Some members getting excited over the results of UK Coal UKC due this week...

I found yesterday that my broker can't allow Australian companies-Extract is from there.However KAH has about 40% interest is it in Extract and is easily accessed from the London market.Now Polo is in on it,having about 6% of Extract.I would only follow one of these and URU incuded too so as not to be too over exposed...but that's me...

Kemi I gather by chat here that URU,EML and KAH are linked by inter-ownerships of shares.

If you wish to have a stake on the present low U-oxide price at $40/lb. reovering-it was at one stage 2 years ago at $135/lb.,why not consider Nufcor NU. ? Its aim is just to stockpile U-oxide for profit,so there are no issues such as mine accidents,profit warnings, etc.For up to date U oxide prices go to the Kitco site for base metals.The U-oxide price is fixed weekly.DYOR.

Ironaged,hi- nice 2cu here.Not complaining,as my KAH-a uranium miner- has given me 50% gains so far,and have now trimmed 15% off losses,paper plus actual from last year.

PAT I also read that the sulphur price is sky-high now -its' main source is from purifying crude oil.Sulphur is important in nickel/acid-heap technology for extracting nickel from laterites,if you read the blurb on AFE's big Dutwa nickel prospect in Africa today you find they were lucky as their strike needs little sulphuric acid -which has to be made from sulphur.Now the pity is that ATH's coal is not much use as a sulphur source unless they got a process to refine it.Though the old tar works used to do it no bother just by distillation of coal I'm not sure if that's done nowadays by coal miners-they preferred to close many Scottish pits instead and imported foreign coal with less sulphur in it. While UK miners went on the dole,in N. England too of course.

EXDIV ATH would benefit from carbon capture as they have coal supplies for example in Scotland near to several power stations.At present the power staions are trucking cheaper foreign coal from Hunterston across to E. Scotland by rail,a new line haing been opened for that purpose to bypass the Forth Rail Bridge.ATH's coal in Scotland is high on sulphur causing pollution,which can bemore easily handled by the new technology of carbon capture so that should narrow the foreign advantage.Bahman- the CO2 containing the carbon goes into disused oil and gas wells offshore.Petertee- I heard that a bolt-on kit is being designed (by I think SSE) so as to modify old systems so they avoid having to wait to build new purpose built ones.

Now anyone who has been using ETC's recently might be advised to put in some kind of stop losses to guard agains loss of any profits after reading the article from the FT News website on the 20th March about "commodities ignoring bearish fundamentals"..."better safe than sorry" is a good maxim.

The problem PB has been carbon capture where the excess C02 is pumped into adjacent defunct oil or gas wells.SSE and Iberdrola/Scottish Power are developing methods.But they might not be ready tillabout 2011 or so.They need to build new coalfired stations nowor the competing LNG stations might get in first as these are cheaper to run.Obviously coalis best for the UKin the long run as LNG willcome from N.Afria and the Middle East,places with political instability.

Today metals ETC's were heading down a bit,though recent showings point not to that being a set back but a chance for those notin yet to stock up...those who doubt that, just look at the performance figures since about a month ago-see the Selftrade site.

Progress for ETC's-in a month LZIK UP 18%; LCOP UP 41%; LLEA UP 30%; figures from Selftrade today...we have liftoff !!

Oil ETC's really rocketing today.A good one is LOIL,leveraged Crude oil.It gets one of the largest volumes among ETC's most days.It is good when there's a large following, because even on down days loads of people are getting more in at cheaper prices.Compared to last summer, prices now are up to 12 times less so imagine the potential upside of this ETC once it gets really going..

Today the Chinese leader said China would put in a large stimulus package.Already oil,base metals and some agricuture are up.If the banks recovery gets under way look at the ETF, XS7R which tracks the major euro banks.Today it is up..DYOR.

I am new here.I like investing in ETC's.Anyone else interested ? Currently gold is a bit shaky,but the base metals especially copper and zinc appear poised for a run.With ETF's,some Far East things are up today-Korea and Vietnam- and China too a bit.If you get in now you at least should get cheap prices though of course who knows how long it might take,the lack of capital is still holding things back.
