those many small trades here from 4.10 to 4.20 p.m on the 7th were nearly all "sells",obviously succeeding in getting the SP lower at little cost.
interesting watching this.It is a weathervane of the economy.Yahoo says a 6.1% drop here, nothing personal about CPR still wish good luck here !
this is a sector move mostly not individual news-related though yes ABG seems badly hit,
of course there's maipulations every day late at night, well documented, and very successful it has been this year. The HUI goldmining index was 199 yesterday compared to a many years low of 190 last year..I've posted a lot elsewhere that miners can't produce at a certain level at all as it is too close to their all in costs.Yes these might be further reduced as they've been already by most companies. However you can't go to the well too often. At that point supply will dry up.Then the gold market must turn. And no large miners have burst for years, producers have ways of re jigging finance and even shorting gold if need be.I'd guess a few might be starved out by a huge gold price drop but not before that supply automatic price adjuster which might be getting near at least with silver soon, and possibly gold too.
I know rbrand quite well but not the others. As an ABG holder I see a typical large producer.I've quite a lot in here.I don't post much here though. As to long term holding see how in successful companies the directors act.Not for them much buying or selling.Yes they might be hedging of course.I'd also guess they'd have several quite large gold company holdings and might be directors somewhere else too.Rules make it harder to jig about in any case then there's dealing costs. If you did sell here a large holding you'd be saying mining in general is very bad.Otherwise why just sell here ? Then where next ? The general shares markets,or in cash at 0% or rocky bonds ?
can't forecast the future but holding gold shares in good jurisdictions must be a good idea.Yes I know KGI has so far never given me any joy when I've been in.GL
why can't you have shorter names ?-time is money lol.Yes I do get enough sleep..anyway yes even if the big E spreads RRS might do better on recovery.They-the ones who short gold-this week the worst for months-what do they want ? Do they want mines to fold ? The "adjustor" is my theory-provided you are not invested in any that go burst-the gold price should rise on supply being cut. That has even been questioned in articles-supply and demand seems suspended these days by manipulation.GL
Sorry the best I can do-at the weekend KGI was 322p the spread was around 6% which is 3% above the mid price however do you buy/sell at midprices so spreads cancell out with each other on buy/sell ? If so thats the original however many KGI shares on your spreadsheet times £3.22 is the sell proceeds to bank,if you're taking actual sell prices its the number of KGI shares times £3.22 plus 3%.Hope that helps lol.GL all.
it is all pluses and minuses and deciding to buy depends on weighing these things at any given time..Minuses-KGI is about 50% above the 200 Day MA now,the big spread, the difficulty with broker dealing see earlier and low volumes which might be connected to that, the Canadian dividend with holding tax,and that costs of extraction are still rather high probably due to comparing 1st to 3rd world wages. And so far my personal bad luck in KGI from a previous hold here. Pluses ? It has now got good momentum,is ISAable and gives low country risk compared to most.It isn't a tiny one which to myself is OMI's one weakness.I will go on holding the companies I have after this reshuffle hopefully for quite a while.Yes of course nothing is sure or can be expected to go in a straight line upwards. GL
"Randgold said today 6/.6/14 that while its operations were all far distant from any Ebola-affected areas,it had embarked on a thorough awareness program about the diseasefor all its workers.Employees had been advised not to travel to the affected areas and contractors had been told not to bring any workers from these areas on to our sites. The company continues to monitor this closely through various bodies.." ..wording slightly abridged.
also if as you say there are dividends- we need to fill in the form to be exempt from Canadian with-holding tax.GL
yes I've been re balancing too recently but wasn't happy about the forced ditching of RRS,since it is a good company especially for dividends though perhaps not so much share appreciation potentially. I saw again today how difficult it appears to be to deal in KGI at least with my broker.I've still to investigate with them why I'm showing such a big loss straight off, they have been known to charge extra for use of dealers for example ! What I got onscreen was 1. share cannot be dealt with at this time. 2. leave a minimum offer for the dealer.Which went through after a while. And it was quite a big slice too.A few weeks ago the same experience but gave up then.Perhaps this is one reason why the volume here seems always too low ? GL
just for interest had to do a prudent sell of RRS for a profit since all 4 of their mines are getting nearer to the Ebola areas in W. Africa, there's even a sei-warning on their site now and it seems some countries are getting shut off by port restrictions already.Glad to see a rise here.GL
Driving-you are maybe less lucky with OMI than I am ? I love that share.Opposite with KGI for me- got in today but quite an expensive deal due to the spread, can never do a live deal, had to leave with the dealers.Hope my luck can change after my last big loss here lol.Sorry to spoil the otherwise party atmos here by putting up with my moaning and groaning !..GL
