OldThor23, I wonder if the statistics take into account the specialisms within roles with pay enhancements. I think that the statistics rely upon a blunt assumption of like for like, which may skew the results. Still, good to know we can slate the women as much as the men at GSK for underperformance and not feel too badly about it. LoL.

Reuters have a piece now on the announcemnet that GSK CEO has ordered managers to find 20% cost savings so that can be redirected to developement.

It is not simply one thing affecting the price, it will be an amalgam. However the price people are willing to buy and sell via the traders is the ultimate factor and manipulation for whatever reason does occur and we never see the iceberg trades until after the fact as private investors. We can guess at them but can't with certainty see all trades as they happen. But surely major drivers are costs, profit, and for gsk pipeline business that really will turn into bottom line figures. The last major spike had nothing to do with turnover but was a consequence of the Brexit vote as I understand it which makes the underperformance in real terms even worse. I also think that many divi holders had gotten used to capital appreciation or at within a band and of course the divi itself. We know now that so many companies divi not only can but has tanked so nothing is set in stone. I gave up ages ago trying to guess why, I just try and buy sub �13 and sell above �13.20-35 and if I happen to hold when it goes ex divi great.

You would think that in a world where reality once ruled that these people would be perpetually red faced and more so when they cashed their pay cheques.

Surely, no one believes this consensus guff, do they? If, and it's a big if, the share price did achieve the figures that keep getting bandied about it would be purely coincidental. Ever read those (it's always 10) best of in what passes for newspapers, pubs, hairdryers, ford cars.....they look at some nonsense that has been printed elsewhere, get a general opinion from some drunken colleagues and then voila. If we forget these broker etc opinions and ask what it would really take to propel GSK beyond �14. I'd take some of it seriously. If there was an indepth analysis of why they have an opinion alongside the propheciy figures then I would have a little more faith.

If or when it does then pat yourself on the back, have a lollipop and call yourself an analyst.

I have seen 440 mentioned. Is this a prophecy or an expected level the share might find. Just curious about why this figure other than it hit it in August around the time it went to 439.

The silence is deafening about the directors share sales.

I'm curious about the rah,rah of VOF. The buys on the drops, are these in anticipation of the share price recovering to around 370 or is it accepted that as with so much else it may have been overpriced even considering the nav.

Current share increase will give hope to long term holders. I have wondered if given the issues facing many pharma businesses that the tip at the consumer division business isn't a longer term transition more to a consumer goods business and less a drugs one. The massive drug profits appear to be behind them now and it is surely the ones who partner up at stage II and III where the big money is now. The divi hasn't been covered by cash for some time and can't see any reason why it should be in the future. The froth is in the latte this morning and in my opinion needs to hit 1380 and then get and stay above 1400 long term for any real recovery because what happens when the figures don't support a share price of 1500 and the divi does get cut eventually.

Pokerchips, I agree with much of what you say. I think though that there is too much to do for GSK to achieve the �16 or �17 shgare price it once did. Having said that I bought 1205 at �12.44 10 mins ago and am keep my fingers crossed that someone doesn't say anything stupid at 12:00.

Pokerchips, of course, but no one can bank the comments of BOD, it is hard income that surely must drive this share. I am fairly new here but most seem to be emotionally attached to this share for past glory and often because they bought a divi share at too high a price rather than hard nosed bottom line. Would the positive comments of the BOD raise the share price the way it plummeted it last year without hard income. If so, result!

Surely, if BP was bought at below its recent high and it does indeed increase in value then Megan will make a paper profit if the "buy and wait" is adhered to. It is only with yesterday's hindsight that the decision to sell GSK currently looks hasty. Who is to say that with the credit bubble building, interest rates rising and inflation wagging the US rate tail that this wasn't just a mini panic or a testing of a decline to come. I personally don't believe that any pharma will be around in its current guise in 10 years never mind decades. Too many pressures from generics and so called disrupters. It is that type of prophecy that gets people buying into what they think is a forwever dividend when what they really have bought is an opportuniuty long term for profiting from dips and highs. If there is no significant increase in share price today post press release and the divi as expected is unaffected then what will it take to drive share growth. The danger with this is that it underperforms share price wise, the divi is static or reduced at some stage. In real terms GSK has seriously underperformed even before the feted announcement last year and it seems simply announcing pipeline products doesn't shift the share it needs income figures now. Year on year GlaxoSmithKline PLC had net income fall -89.17% from 8.42bn to 912.00m despite a 16.58% increase in revenues from 23.92bn to 27.89bn. I personally would like to beleive GSK will drop below �12 retain the divi for a few more years. Still, whatever everyone's reasons for holding, buying or selling I hope it works out.

Forgive me for perhaps poking some optimism, but even if the results show �100 billion if the cost of achieving sales/operations rises exponentially then the underperformance in real terms continues. The general consensus appears to be that their pipeline is pants and pressures abound on revenue in real terms. If this doesn't recover some ground today then any increase is going to appear good tomorrow.

Surely the danger even if the increased sales forecast proves to be correct is that the net affect is negative.

They cant? Up until the morning of Capita's latest crash only two out of 16 had them as a sell.

Forget the divi for the moment this share has turned into a fairly predictable (as much as any share can be predictable) upper and lower price trade. Any predictions for 2018. I'll stick my neck out and say closer to £12 than £14. Not too sure about this pipeline and news info. feel it is akin to the burlesque fan dance. Very happy to be proven wrong though. I hope that all holders have a great Christmas and a healthy and profitable 2018.
