mystery-guy - thanks for the link. The usual one sided views from these people who pretend to have a brain. They completely forget that there are risks to everything in life: energy production; travel; construction; etc;. Provided that these are managed properly with appropriate safeguards in place then the risks can be lowered to an acceptable level. They can never be zero as these people insist.
Activity associated with death Risk
Maternal death in pregnancy (direct or indirect causes) 1 in 8,200 maternities
Surgical anaesthesia 1 in 185,000 operations
Scuba diving 1 in 200,000 dives
Fairground rides 1 in 834,000,000 rides
Rock climbing 1 in 320,000 climbs
Canoeing 1 in 750,000 outings
Hang-gliding 1 in 116,000 flights
Rail travel accidents 1 in 43,000,000 passenger journeys
Aircraft accidents 1 in 125,000,000 passenger journeys
note: the HSE's table has details of the period covered and the source of each figure
I assume these people will never get pregnant, or travel on a train or plane? But they are more than happy to enjoy the benefits energy conversion brings.
