Janes, where do get this nonsense from that the Kig can dissolve parliament as you suggest? He has no powers at all to do that He is simply a ceremonial figure only. I see this garbage about the King stepping in & dissolving parliament a lot on Twitter and it boggles my mind as to where people get it from!?!?

There is no current chance of a GE before 2029. Labour have a huge majority so it won't happening until its due in Aug 2029 unfortunately. What is more likely is a Labour leadership challenge/change and maybe promising for JOG is Andy Burnham's recent softening on his stance on North Sea Oip & Gas but its a 'watch this space' kind of thing at the moment.

The outcome of this could be quite telling, but I'm not confident of a positive outcome for the industry.

I just do not understand Labour's stance on it when you factor in job losses and affected communities etc it goes againt their core values to me.

Milliband is a nightmare. JOG must be sick of the signt of him haunting this project one way or another. He's now apparently in the frame to replace Starmer if he goes. You couldn't make it up if you tried :-(

There is a lot of pressure on Milliband and the UK Gov

on this now so will see how it plays out.

But for me, anything positive re JOG before the next election will be an unexpected bonus. They wont be voted in next time after the mess they are making now and a change in Gov ahould work in JOG's favour.

If nothing elee Milliband is killing his own politcal career right now so that can only be a positive :-)

If this is going to positively move before a change in government, then it likely will be in this current climate.

Labour have the perfect excuse to row back on their green pledges whilst saving face. Wether they do it or not remains to be seen but the worry is (as mentioned by someone else previously here) is that Milliband has too much power within the Labour party. If Starmer sacks him, it could be a disaster internally for Starmer and sadly survival would seem to be Starmer's prority.

It's a bit more complex than a hard 'no'. Aparently she was going to announce it being scrapped in the spring statement but the current gulf crisis has delayed that after a spike in O&G prices, so to me that is some

sorr of positive progress.

There is a long way to go with regards to NSO&G. This government is weak and has already given in to elements within the Labour party re. benefits, doctors & nurses pay and the minimum wage to name but a few.

The unions haven't fully mobilized yet but when they do, there will be one huge $hlt storn over the job losses and what its doing to Scotland. They'll cave in evetually, if they don't it will be the Miners all over again and Starmer won't have the stomach for that.

Starmer may be struggling but if He goes I'm very wary of who may replace him for any length of time before the next election. If a replacement for Starmer (even could be Milliband) is proper left leaning then things could get even worse.

I'm confident common sense will prevail eventually, but the question is how long will we have to wait before it does!?!?

Likely to be the way of it unless the current Labour government do a significant 'u-turn' on their idiotic policy and that seems unlikely unless the whole of the O&G industry go full on aggresive industrial action like the Miners did to force a change.

Otherwise, I don't see what is going to move off their current stance? They'd rather pay over the odds and buy O&G from overseas it would seem.
