I still don't fully understand... a broker doesn't actually own shares they're just a vehicle by which people (usually PI's) can buy/sell or hold shares.... so the shares the broker is lending aren't actually theirs to lend?
Could it be the RMG I've currently got with a certain broker have actually been lent to a shorter by my broker?

@200 - exactly, I doubt any more that 1-2% of RM employees are/were on furlough, so I don't see how that can have any bearing on when RM can reinstate their divi.

Oligarch - I agree RM could achieve the job losses through natural wastage, I was just saying that CWU should have been accepting that there is a case for streamlining the workforce and should have been acting in the best interests of it's membership accordingly rather than just opposing all and any changes that result in a reduction in the workforce.
As for the virus hanging around and resulting in more work and more revenue for RM I agree, but it's shame the markets don't seem to share that opinion.

Oligarch, if the CWU continued with it's stance of opposing ALL and ANY job losses under any circumstances then they wouldn't have any RM membership at all because RM would eventually no longer exist as a viable company.

What the CWU should be (and hopefully now is) doing is recognising that there is scope for streamlining the business through both parcels automation and a reduction in the USO and instead should be negotiating for the best possible VR terms for those that are willing to go, that way there's a more efficient and profitable business with a secure long term future for the RM employees and CWU membership.

I agree with Wolves, I think the CWU have adopted a very self serving attitude and aren't acting in the best interests of their membership, thus far they've had a stance of opposing all and any job losses simply because they want to keep their membership numbers and income from subs as high as possible.

The whole market is down around 3% mainly due I suspect to ''second wave'' fears... but it is frustrating that RMG is following that downward trend given that the more time that Corona remains an ongoing issue the more parcels revenue we're receiving.

Our competitors would be a lot less competitive if the govt acted upon the findings of the Taylor Review into the gig economy which especially focused on the delivery sector and the illegally low pay and abysmal T&C's that their ''self employed'' drivers operate under.

We're already having to sort and segregate parcels outside in the yard due to running out of space in what is a big modern delivery office. Even without social distancing in place we wouldn't have room indoors for all the additional yorks we're currently using.
Doing it under a canopy of the loading bay but not offering any real protection from the rain and wind, not too bad in the summer months especially with the decent spring and summer we've had this year, but I don't think the parcel sorters will be too keen to do it come October onward...

It's just more bull from RM management, they have a long history of cooking the books in a negative way, hiding profits and making the businesses prospects look bleak... if we're losing £1m a day due to the cost of manually handling all these additional parcels then why not just refuse to accept them?
When it comes to pkts and parcels we have total commercial freedom to charge what we want and accept or reject whatever we want as they don't fall under the USO.

I'm sure a lot of the shorts regret not closing their positions at 130p so now they're just doubling down on their bets.

I think I'm correct in saying that OFCOM don't regulate the pkts/parcels market for RM or any other courier companies, it's only letters that fall under their remit.
You can bet if OFCOM did have a say in the parcels market they'd be more interested in dragging down our pay and T&C's to that of our gig economy competitors as it provides better VFM for the customer.

Perhaps it's time for RM to exercise their right to tell OFCOM and UKGOV that they can stick their USO up their arse (as I believe RM are perfectly entitled to do) and then OFCOM are free to find another operator to deliver mail under the terms of the USO... I'm sure they'll have companies queuing around the block for the chance to do so (not)

Big investor makes another big buy = Price goes down

Its been the exactly the same with every set of results ever since the shorters have been targeting RMG, even when the results have been entirely in line with or even slightly better than expectations... a sharp fall followed by a steady recovery.

Just a recovery from the usual short driven over reaction to what was an entirely expected set of results last week?

I heard that the areas where management roles will be lost is IT, sales and marketing... just the areas where they shouldn't be cutting back IMO.

Good to see there will still be a ratio of one manager/lino for every 10-15 posties.

They know what they're doing in so much as all the big institutional shorters know what they're doing when it comes to them all acting in unison and employing their various dark arts to manipulate the price of whichever share they're targeting downward.
