Equities in Europe traded lower in the premarket on Monday amid new worries concerning the COVID-19 pandemic throughout the continent. The number of infections registered in the United Kingdom surpassed 3.4 million, leading to reports the government was considering introducing tighter restrictions. Meanwhile, the figure for cases of coronavirus in Germany has risen to nearly two million.
The DAX traded 0.39% lower at 8:16 am CET, while the FTSE 100 went down by 0.13%.
The euro lost 0.34% to the dollar to sell for $1.21841 at 7:27 am CET. A minute later, the pound sterling declined by 0.43% against the greenback, changing hands for $1.35048.

US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez stated on Sunday she thinks that the second impeachment of President Donald Trump should be scheduled as soon as possible.
Ocasio-Cortez told ABC News that the "main priority is to ensure the removal of Donald Trump as president of the United States. Every minute and every hour that he is in office represents a clear and present danger, not just to the United States Congress but frankly to the country."
She added that they are discussing the "complete barring of the president, or rather of Donald Trump, from running for office ever again. And in addition to that the potential ability to prevent pardoning himself from those charges that he was impeached for."

Having plunged $30 per ounce at the start of Friday's London trade, gold priced in the Dollar fell another $5 to touch 1-week lows at $1876 before rallying to $1890.

Bond yields were little moved by the jobs data, leaving the rate of interest on 10-year US Treasury debt at 10-month highs above 1.00% per annum while market-implied inflation rose above 2.10%.

That put the real rate of interest at minus 1.04% – very near the multi-decade low which coincided with gold's new record peak above $2000 per ounce in August.

Gold sank around 3.3% to below $1850 an ounce on Friday, the lowest level in near a month as Senate runoff elections in Georgia and riots in US Capitol pushed the dollar and Treasury yields up. On the week, gold was down 2.6%. Still, the precious metal is expected to resume the upward momentum as control by Democrats of both chambers of Congress is paving the way for more fiscal spending to revive the US economy and rise in inflationary pressure.

Kremlin announced on Sunday that "at the initiative of the president of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, on January 11, 2021, in Moscow, trilateral talks will be held of the President of the Russian Federation, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan."
According to the announcement, the focus will be on reviewing "the implementation of the November 9, 2000 statement of leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia on Nagorno-Karabakh and discuss further steps on resolving the issues present in the region."
In September last year, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan ordered an end to the ongoing conflict with Azerbaijan that erupted between the two nations back in September over Nagorno-Karabakh.

Republican Senator Pat Toomey from Pennsylvania said that he supports the impeachment of President Donald Trump over his role in the Capitol riots earlier this week.
"I do think the president committed impeachable offenses," Toomey told Fox News, however, he added he is "concerned" the House might "completely politicize" the issue. In any case, Senator Toomey said that he doesn't know "what is gonna land on the Senate floor, if anything."
House Democrats plan on introducing an article of impeachment against Trump on Monday.
