Ofgem has announced that the energy price cap will rise to an average annual £1,717 from October from its current £1,568 (+9.5%). The regulator says that the rise is due to the continued higher price of wholesale gas. This will clearly take cash out of consumers’ pockets and reduce disposable income available to spend on non-essentials.
