RECENT WEST KENYA DRILL RESULTS...analysis

The enthusiasm generated by "visible" gold and extraordinary high grades found after 1/3rd of the drilling programme are understandable. Discovery of 5,643 g/t, even in isolation, puts it right up there with anything found in the Transvaal . . . especially as it is within the open-pit window @ ~200 metres.
The Witwatersrand mines (in the Transvaal) are the deepest in the world around 40,000 m or 13,000 feet, Shaft sinking to service these depths is very expensive and time-consuming the twin shafts of South Deep took nine years to sink and cost $600 million.
This area in South Africa has mined 40% of ALL the Worlds gold with over 1.2 Billion ounces still to mine .But because the gold conglomerates are only 20-30 cm wide its very labour intensive and therefore has over the decades slipped down the rankings of yearly mined gold
With no known economic way of automating extracting this gold at such depths, their future is unsure as is dominated by politics and the powerful unions

Shanta Gold Ltd reported the second-best exploration result this year when it announced further high-grade drilling results from its West Kenya gold project, said analysts at Liberum Capital.

“In the West Kenya drill results update yesterday was a truly remarkable hit of 4 metres at 706 g/t [grammes a tonne], including 0.5m at 5,643g/t,” Liberum said. “This implied gold equivalent interval of 2,825 AuEq m/t would place it amongst the best drill results across any commodity in recent years.”

“To compare this hit with other exploration results across all key commodities, we multiply its gold-equivalent grade by the drill interval length. Using this method, Shanta has reported the second-best drill result this year, second to Pretium Resources’ drill results at its Brucejack mine in Canada. On its announcement of Filo Mining result in May, the stock’s price doubled.”
