United Kingdom Health Secretary Sajid Javid announced on Thursday that South Africa and five other African countries will be placed on Britain's travel red list due to the new variant of COVID-19 that was detected on the continent.
"From noon tomorrow six African countries will be added to the red list, flights will be temporarily banned, and UK travelers must quarantine," Javid tweeted.
Earlier, South African scientists said they detected a new strain of COVID-19 with a large number of mutations.
