The Ofcom chairmanship race is finally over, after the government opted to pick former BBC boss Michael Grade as their choice for the role. POLITICO’s Esther Webber has a write-up. The Guardian’s Jamie Grierson gives Grade the profile treatment — most entertainingly, the 79-year-old was once nicknamed “pornographer in chief” for his sanctioning of late-night TV while at major broadcasters and had a clash with Brass Eye’s Chris Morris that led to Morris inserting a frame stating “Grade is a c**t” into the show’s final episode. More importantly for media watchers, Grade has spoken out in favor of Channel 4 privatization and has criticized the BBC license fee.

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin stated on Friday during a meeting that the Russian-speaking people all over the world are dealing with "monstrous manifestations of Russophobia."
"Russia is confronted everywhere with monstrous manifestations of Russophobia against our people, our athletes, cultural figures, against our state institutions, and simply Russian-speaking people in many countries of the world," said Mishustin.
The prime minister also added that "the Government will have to launch new, more effective mechanisms to support citizens," such as "increasing payments, pensions and benefits," as well as "helping specific enterprises overcome the current difficult problems."

The prices of oil futures declined on Friday after the European Union announced it has reached a deal with the United States over additional deliveries of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the bloc.
Earlier, Canada stated it is planning to increase its export of oil to make up for the lack of commodity following the ban of the one coming from Russia in a number of markets.
West Texas Intermediate for settlements in May lost 2.30% at 5:33 am ET to sell for $109.73 per barrel. At the same time, Brent for deliveries in the same month decreased by 2.10% to go for $116.45 per barrel.
