The stability of Northern Ireland and the United Kingdom, in general, has been put at risk, and part of the solution is unlocking the Northern Ireland protocol, UK Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab stressed on Sunday.
"The outcome of those elections in Northern Ireland makes it clear: It can't be put off," Raab told in an interview with Sky News, refusing to give more details about the timeframe of the negotiations, but adding that the solution has to be found in the coming months.
Raab also didn't specify if a move to unilaterally change the protocol will be a part of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson's legislative agenda that will be unveiled in the coming days.

While the UK as a third country, has to abide by EU single market law, so all our EU exports are delayed as numerous checks/inspections (even veterinary) are applied (red tape). Costing UK businesses Billions

Luhansk Oblast Governor Serhiy Haidai said in a Telegram post on Sunday that Russia's airstrike on a school in Belogorovka, a town located in the Luhansk region, allegedly resulted in numerous casualties.
"The fire was being extinguished for almost four hours and then the debris was dismantled," stated Haidai adding that while "30 people were evacuated from the rubble... most likely, all 60 people who remained under the rubble of buildings died."
Haidai condemned the actions of Russian military forces that took place the previous day, underscoring that they "don't [seem to] care who they kill."

The health authorities of China's city of Shanghai have decided to ease the coronavirus containment measures in some parts of the city, mostly on the periphery, TASS reported on Sunday, citing data its reporter obtained.
Previous reports by other outlets claimed that Shanghai's authorities are planning to eradicate the virus in the city by the middle of May.
A "majority of Shanghai residents are still unable to leave the territory of their compounds," the Russian media outlet's report read.

I could scarcely believe my eyes when I read Jacob Rees-Mogg’s comment that not imposing post-Brexit checks on imports from the EU (postponed for a fourth time) would “save” the UK £1bn (from the consequences of his own government’s actions).

Yet this self-revelation (Report, April 29) is merely one aspect of the whole Brexit exercise. According to our top non-governmental experts — if I may put their findings backwards — not doing Brexit at all would have saved us cumulative losses of £87bn a year in gross domestic product and £32bn a year in lost inland revenue (something the crafty Brexiter chancellor Rishi Sunak never mentions).

In the past two months or so we have all become experts on sanctions against Russia. It’s time more people realised that, led by Boris Johnson, our own government has in effect been imposing broad and deeply damaging sanctions on the British population since 2016 by means of Brexit. Anyone who votes for this pack of loonies again must be gaga.

Russian forces in Ukraine launched an attack on Odessa on Saturday, city officials stated. Two missiles hit the city's airport, which was already damaged in previous attacks. Four rockets targeted a furniture factory and destroyed nearby residential buildings, the officials said.
