Agree 100%, I too was a manager (albeit an 802 one) and had to deal with many a 801/802 engineers who thought is was their god given right to avoid work, they cited lack of training/not within my payband/stress/bad back etc. When I tried to exit them HR intervened and told me to put them on a COACHING PLAN, which inevitably failed, they then either went off sick (on full pay) or went down the victimisation route.
When I was promoted I remember an old school T3 advising me to manage as if it was MY company, however I was never allowed too….
Hey ho rant over
P.S. I retired with 43 years under my belt and I owe EVERYTHING I have to the GPO/Post Office Telephones/BT & Openreach
Yes we were the last of the few methinks, when I retired in 2015 there were many ex-military being bought in to run teams, no external or internal experience, no management skills and just as you say “data analysing” was their job description, as we both know any and all targets are manageable with the right key stokes. I remember being told of managers, whilst authorising timesheets, using the Transaction MTSW to the full, hey ho happy days eh?
As an aside I was the last of less than 1000 option A pension crew, that ages me somewhat.
Hope you enjoy your retirement as much as I am mine, keep active in mind and body for a long life, my aim is to draw my pension longer that I drew my wages….
Oh contraire, firstly the correct use is you’re NOT your…
Secondly I was not targeted I retired at 60 which was when I joined the standard retirement age.
Thirdly never have I been bitter and twisted, BT were a great employer.
Finally, all my TEAM MEMBERS clubbed together to get me a very nice and expensive watch when I RETIRED and some still keep in contact rueing the day I left them as they in their (not there) own words still say I was the best manager they’ve ever had.
Wisdom comes with age and experience and should never be ignored my dear friend.
I have experience of TEAM MEMBERS, 43 years as a matter of fact, I was one and ended my career managing them. In my opinion there are some that cruise, some that do the least they can get away with, some that play the system and a FEW that strive to do a days work.
The Old Guard are still in force who think BT owes them a living, there are many who drew their pension and continue to “work” not until these are gone will the company move forward…
Oh contraire…..
Looks like you’re not resident in the Republic of Ireland
If you're:
an Irish citizen living abroad, or
non-Resident in Ireland & coming to live or work in Ireland
then you can apply for a current account but you may need to submit some additional documentation when you apply
So how does a UK citizen who is not going to work/live in Ireland open an account?
