Given that I was rubbished by some at the time, here is the version of my post of 18 December from ADVFN...
"Those of you who have broken down the numbers are clearly missing the point...
There's no way of knowing that BHP, NCM and CGP voted agains Mather (elthough you can be certain that CGP did....)
And no, Mather DIDN'T get 45% of the vote. He got 45% of the votes cast IN HIS BALLOT...
Here is the analysis I've just sent to the company:
And I hope Nick now gets the message.
HE IS THE PROBLEM:
He should do the honourable thing and step aside. He's compromised anyhow, because almost half the votes in favour were cast by his own direct and indirect holdings.
If you take out his votes only 500 million voted for him.
All the small shareholders I have seen comment voted for him, so he clearly does not have the support of the institutional holders.
Its not just that 750 million votes were against him, if you compare his vote to the new Directors, 750 million COULDN'T BRING THEMSELVES TO VOTE FOR HIM...
He got 930 million; Elodie for example got 1679 million...
Furthermore its also clear that they couldn't get support for the Resolutions they had to pull...
This was simply a shocking result and if he thinks he's got a new mandate because he's clung on, SOLG is going nowhere except to a takeover bid."
