It seems beyond belief that BHP would have no interest in owning SOLG because they would have a burgeoning portfolio of resources that could keep them at the top of world mining for at least 50 years

In which case even £2 seems ridiculously cheap. Also they bid a few years ago...

However the longer they wait the more likely that a raft of suitors steams in...

My own favourite is still Barrick, but it's possible SOLG may get to choose the bid that keeps the biggest part of SOLG independent for the longest....

Once finance is pretty much arranged it really ramps up the ante and especially the price...

All this talk of "the biggest takeover story in the City" last October and Liberum Peel Hunt and others predicting a bid must come to something sooner or later...

If thats true...thats why a placing of $80 million works and the SP closes 10% above the placing price....

Very strong finish considering stock was sold at 8.00 this morning at 25.67p...

UT 314.097 at 28.30...virtually the high for the day and higher than last Wednesday's close...

My only disappointment is that the SP didn't fall back enough to increase our 1.1m holding...

You and I might think that would push the price up, but I think many retail investors are in for the long haul, don't trade the shares and if they do, do so at the periphery and...

When I was marketing our shares to institutions in the past most of them wouldn'tt invest unless they could get at least 3250,000 worth and its probably significantly more than that now...
