RESPONSIBLE MINING EAST REGIONAL ASSEMBLY MEETING STARTED

The "Responsible Mining" conference of the Eastern Region, jointly organized by the Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry, the Ministry of Minerals and Petroleum, the National Mining Association of Mongolia, and the National Council of the Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative, is starting today in Choibalsan, Dornod Province.

The conference was opened by B. Delgerjargal, the head of the Statistics and Research Department of the Ministry of Mining, M. Badamsuren, the Governor of the Eastern Province, and G. Erdenetuya, the Executive Director of MUUA, and they emphasized the support of responsible mining by government policies.

The guest speakers of today's conference will present the government's policy for the development of responsible mining in the mineral resources sector, the current situation and the policy being implemented in the field of environmental protection and its implementation. Also, the positive and negative effects of the mining industry, including the effects of illegal mineral extraction, will be emphasized, and how to ensure civil society and local participation in the development of responsible mining will be discussed.

Representatives of Dornod, Sukhbaatar, and Khentii Provinces, Ministry of Education, Environmental Police, civil society organizations, local people, and enterprise organizations operating in the field of mineral exploration and extraction in the eastern region are participating in the conference.
