ok, i guess what u mean there is shorting for a value slightly less than when you bought, e.g. short 1000 at £1, then buy 2000 at 80p, or is this completely wrong, i have never looked at offseting trades, obviosuly because i have nver shorted any

i think we got our wires crossed, thats what i believed all the time, as i was saying then, if i shorted on a stock that couldnt really go higher than double in value then it is the same as buying a stock that could go bust, the stock i buy goes bust i loose 100%, the stock i short, doubles i loose 100%, obviously i would have to buy back the exact number of stocks i sold initally, well to me that does not sound really any more of a risk than buying, especially in the period we are in, maybe when market has sustained growth, yes, not time to short alot of stocks

i never said break even, sell at £1 (1000 shares, £1000 total) , buy at £2, loose £1000 overall

is that example i put down not right though?

yeah but u have to sell originally, example, sell £1000 at £1 (1000 shares), then if it goes to 80p and you buy, you make 20p x 1000 = £200, if it goes to £1.20 and you buy then £1.20 x 1000 = £1200, means you loose £200, so if you then buy at £2, 1000 x £2 = £2000, you have lost £1000, equal to what your initial investment was, that not right

ok you wouldnt recommend but please could you answer the question, do normal stockbrokers offer the short facility? at the end of the day, you are not going to be shorting stocks that are low priced, e.g. shorters would of been shorting banks recently, so if you dont short small valued companies, then you cant loose more than an original investment, for example, say u short a stock at £1 for £1000, if it goes to £2 a share u will lose 100% of the original amount, £3 a share then 200%, so most of the time you cant really loose more than the original investment, is that not right what i am saying?

do normal stockbrokers offer the faciltiy to short stock?

well my view is, they needed cashflow to survive for the next few months, and they hoped in the next few months they could strike a deal with re financing or takeover, which i think has gone as hoped

2 weeks ago jonny i believe what you were saying abou the takeover, but 2 weeks of not even a slight bit of news, and the share price going up and down with no real new buyers or sellers, made me sell, really i lost confidence in the directors of ennstone, surely at such an important time, they have acted in a very poor way

only got a share dealing account through bank, cant short any shares unfortunately

what you have said has come true, but i dont personally believe that the suspended share situation is for the reason you believe it is for, i am much more happy that i have taken my 60% profit, than be sat with the possibility of loosing the investment or making 300%-400%, good luck to you all, but it is all or nothing now for you, no in betweens, you might say you are 99% confident of the takeover, i dont even think mr mcleod is 99% confident

say what you want, i dont fully believe in a balanced portfolio, the more long term the more balanced, but there are people out there making loads of money on day trading, week trading, because of speculation and knowledge of how stocks are going to react to events, i dont believe you will get rich with a balanced porfolio unless you are already rich

well actually thats i do, the thing is, everybody comes on here taking like they are best pals with mr mcleod and know every little bit of inside info there is, i very much doubt all of you current holders are not worried about the current situation, well lets say this, i am sure 99% of you, would say yes to someone if they said i will buy your shares off you for the price you paid for them, hence you breaking even, unless you have inside info, this company looks as though it is going under, FACT

i am new to shares, 3-4 months actually, you talk about doing some digging and not looking at reports/statements, the fact is i dont know where to look, when i do my research i could be reading pointless info or good info, its how i view it, but doing your own digging, sounds like you have contacts somewhere, well i dont, at the end of the day we are all taking an opinion of the info we receive, but i just dont see how what has happened recently, can be good for shareholders, what percentage then do you think it is that ennstone survive and their shares go up significantly due to eithe refinancing or takeover, i would say its 25% they are rescued, 75% they are not

how are the mortgage payments going? i assume with the confidence you have you have re mortgaged your home, sold everything you have, except the computer, even borrowed off loan sharks to be able to buy as many shares in ennstone as was physically possible, if the takeover was going to go ahead, we would surely have heard about it by now, and personally, why would you even want to invest in a company that doesnt keep its shareholders up to date with events in the most important time ever, you either have some some extremely good contacts and are getting fed up to the date inside information or you lumped alot, probably too much than you can really afford on ennstone at like 5p, and are praying for a takeover to pull you out of the sh**

also jonny, you did say that the sale of assets was related with the possible takeover by marwyn, yet they have said that they sold these just for short term capital, with all the reports saying the financing and possible sale is not looking good at all, then surely you cant expect a announcement of a takeover and so everything is fine again, that would look like ennstone were giving out false information, is that even possible?
