It of course now puts Asahi in the market for an IPF drug. To have one on the shelf the sign up cost is so low compared to developing something new it is a valid plan b for them.

Tragically, in some cases it seems that the Coronavirus taken from tissue samples from suffers in China can lead to Fibrosis in the lung.

This from the New Scientist:

Alwalid and his colleagues have been assessing CT lung scans of people in Wuhan who have caught the virus. In the first week of infection, before symptoms start to show, signs of inflammation become apparent in the lungs. This spreads from one site in one lung to multiple areas of both lungs in the first few weeks of becoming infected, before it starts to improve.

“We found some fibrosis [scarring] in the lungs, but we don’t know if that is reversible,” he says. “Is it something that will resolve, or will it stay in the lungs? And what might the consequences be?”

There was an article about 2 days back posted by Dave from the New Scientist saying that one of the consequences of Coronavirus is that it causes scarring on the lungs presumably a type of fibrosis that will be susceptible to other infections. Whether NXP002 is the answer that we do not know yet.

Yes all LTH here know what is coming, research has been good now it is just a matter of time. What is great news at the minimum we have a drug that has already proved to remove IPF cough but it appears we have much more.

Reread the RNS from 25/11
“ The Group has elected to commence development of NXP002 as an inhaled therapy for the treatment of both IPF and IPF-induced cough, an untreated side effect of IPF that severely affects over 80 per cent of patients. Inhaled IPF treatment offers the prospect of reduced competition, increased efficacy and reduced side effects; overall a more commercially attractive product. The inclusion of IPF-induced cough reduces development risk with proof-of-concept demonstrated.”
Thought the comment on IPF-induced cough was worth pondering. It affects 80% of patients ie 80% of the global market. This tied in with restricted airways from the paper published last month by Muhunthan Thillai amongst others then the existing tablet format is not going to come close to an inhaled treatment. Even if the existing medication is maintained removing the cough will be a benefit. The RNS says proof of concept has already been achieved.

Probably an arranged bargain by the broker between the persistent seller and either a HNI or II building a position. Their fee the difference, happens a lot we have seen a number of these trades on the board.

11.5 years from phase 1 to develop a drug from scratch the general market has not cottoned on to the process that exists here. The IIs will be given priority when news come this will fly.

OFEV is Nintedanib and apparently has a number of side effect including severe renal impairment and liver impact so not surprising patients stop taking treatments.
General warnings for Nintedanib

Contraindications:
Moderate to severe hepatic impairment. Peanut or soya allergy. Pregnancy; ensure hormonal and barrier contraception and continue for =3 months after treatment. Lactation.
Warnings:
Mild hepatic or severe renal impairment (CrCl <30ml/min). Perform LFTs before and during treatment, discontinue permanently if signs of liver injury occur. Monitor renal function esp in patients with risk factors for renal impairment. Predisposition to bleeding. Increased cardiovascular risk; consider treatment interruption if signs of myocardial ischaemia occur. Previous abdominal surgery; do not start treatment for =4 weeks after surgery, discontinue permanently if GI perforation occurs. History of peptic ulceration or diverticular disease. Risk of aneurysm or artery dissection. Monitor BP. Risk of impaired wound healing. Risk factors for QT prolongation.

Hard to believe anyone could drive this price this low if the results of NXP002 are better than current treatments in such a large market. Hope they are progressing clinical tests while we await Japan news.

From the RNS showing the initial results of NXP002 it shows NXP002 outperforming esbriet. There is only one other drug currently available for IPF treatment and that is Ofev .
Which is better OFEV or Esbriet?
Results showed that the already approved therapies offered more reliable and positive results. Esbriet, at the recommended dose of 2403 mg/day, was found to be more effective than 300 mg/day of Ofev.17 Jul 2017
