So casing is tested wellhead tested and Bop tested. Good to go. Pull test plug. Set wear bushing in new wellhead to protect the metal area in the wellhead when rotating the pipe whilst drilling.

Keeping simple here again. Pick up an 8inch drill bit. Drill collars and heavy weight drill pipe. This is called the bottom hole assembly. BHA. Run drill pipe all the way down to the bottom and start drilling the float and shoe out. Can see the difference in torques. Once at 10,005 feet as we have left a we bit of space for the cement to get up the annuuas while pumping. That is called the rat hole.

Next op is crucial. Drill 10 feet of new formation. Never been drilled before on the well. Stop drilling and close the BOP on the well. BHP is still 5200 with the mud weight of 10 ppg. We then put pressure on the well to see how much pressure it can take, This is called a leak off test, LOT. On the pressure chart we can see where we start breaking over and loosing mud. So for example it breaks over at 300 psi. We now have a figure. 5500psi. Max pressure We can put on this section of well. Using the same formula as before we have a maximum mudweight of 10, 6 ppg. Exceeding that and we could take losses. This can be far more complicated than that but basically that is rule of thumb. Deeper we get the higher the mud weight. When getting near to 10.6 we have to think about setting casing!!!

There is a mistake in there. We are not pressure testing the Bop against the casing, We are testing the internal casing against the cement head. Or a swage to pump mud down internally, Sorry. Half time..

My assumption was there was a wellhead on and 13 inch BOP above it. Principals are still the same. We are at 10, 000 feet. The casing shoe is at that depth. TVD is that so BHP is 5200 psi. Pressure test the casing against the BOP. Remove the cement head. Well is stable with the 2 barriers in place. The bottom of hole with cement and the hydrostatic of the mud.

Safe to lift the BOP. The casing is still all the way to the drill floor. Set a casing hanger which there are many different ones. Overpull the casing and set the hanger whilst stretching the cemented pipe. In the wellhead set the hanger. The Bop is sitting above the person setting it!!!! Slack off the weight to ensure it is taking the stretch. Cut the casing in the wellhead area. Blow torch or casing cutter. Lay that remnant down, Move the BOP OUT OF THE WAY. You now have to prep the stump for the next wellhead to go on. In that wellhead is a seal assembly that goes over the stump, Make up all the bolts and test the wellhead with a hydraulic hand pump. Usually 2 tests. This is massively important it is done properly. All good and put the BOP on again. Run a test plug and test the BOP again. More to follow. Rugby today, should be a good one!!

This is as basic as it gets, Going to change to 10,000 feet so the bhp is 10.000 x .052 x 10. is 5200 PSI.

We are going to drill a 12inch hole and run 9 inch casing. So directionally drilled at say 30 degrees when we run the casing it will lie on the low side. We run centralisers on the casing so that when we cement it goes all around the casing not one side. The first joint of casing we pick up is called the shoe 60 feet behind is the float. The float is basically a one way valve. Pump down it and shuts when not pumping. When cementing we have a cement head loaded above the cement line are plugs. When cementing the volumes the plugs are released and pumped down the hole with rig pumps to displace the cement in the casing. They go all to way to bottom and the cement is pushed into the annulus. When the plug hits the bottom of the casing there is a pressure increase so you know you are ok. Volumes are critical in this operation. Right game on AFC/

Thanks Older. Even if you drill 10,000 feet horizontally at the bottom of the well the TVD pressure is the same at 2600 psi. More complicated. The volumes inside and outside have increase massively though. Volumes are hugely important to know as well.

TVD is used to calculate pressures. MD is used to calculate volumes. So if you were at 5000 feet TVD with 10 pound per gallon in the hole the bottom hole pressure using a drilling constant of .052 is 5000x .o52. 10. 2600 psi. Even when going at 50 degrees that is what is called BHP. Bottom Hole Pressure. If you get that you are dong well.

Looked like Jay was standing next to An 11 inch BOP. That means drilling with a 8,5 inch bit or so. Then set 7inch casing above the zones. Could have already drilled it at 50 feet an hour. Run casing and cement. The only problem I have is with coring!! The cuttings and pore pressure is enough information for me. Coring can only drill max 90 feet. Maybe only 60 feet and then has to be pulled to surface. So that is a lot of runs in and out of the hole......

So saying that the surface casing will have 2 depths. MD ant TVD. Did not say on the 3500 feet. Directionally drill at say on average 5 degrees per 1000 feet which is quite simple. The surface casing will have the depths of both and will be set at say 15 degrees MD .

From the drill floor rotary table there are 2 depths. True Vertical Depth. as it says straight down, The other one is measured depth as how much pipe is actually in the hole on a directionally drilled well. So say TVD is 7500. The directionally drilled well at 50 degrees should come in at less than 9000 feet give or take.

we are in control of the well and all panr. speculation on nothing we have control of is pointless. this is filling the board with *******s!!

Right now this should be the focus. As I am sure is the BOD. Supposition is fine. Everyone should be focussing on the well. December drilled and cored. Way ahead of the curve!!

Excellent news. 3500 feet drilled in a week and casing in and cemented. Further than I thought. Should be back drilling by now and 4000 feet to go before coring. Maybe another string of casing before coring!!!!

They drill a hole and run casing into it. I do not have the casing programme. Then cement up the backside of the hole.

All good put the first well head on and put the BOP on top in shallow wells and size of casing. If I remember this rig has 2 different sizes of BOP. IF on test the bop against a test plug set in the wellhead below it. If all good pull the test plug.

Run a wear bushing so that the rotation of pipe does not damage the sealing area in the wellhead.Pick up a new drill bit that fits in the casing and associated BHA. Run pipe in hole and drill out the cement that is remnant at the bottom of the casing. Drill 10 feet of fresh hole. Close the BOP And put pressure on the open formation to see how much it can take. This is called a leak off test. That gives you the maximum mud weight you can use before you have to think about setting your next casing otherwise you start loosing mud which is never good. Once you set and cement the next casing Rinse and repeat. Hope that helps some of you.

You have to drill the hole to set casing inside it. What he probably means is that they have to put the BOP on and test it!!!
