Return for risk is the name of the game. Risk has increased, prices have dropped. Fed has to show confidence, many more than 20 small banks better long term value elsewhere when the market fog clears. Why take considerable risk for modest gains, just my take on the Irish banks

Half the US bank are insolvent. If a crisis evolves, some very influential people think it will, we would be very short sighted to think it would not affect Irish banks. The law of unintended consequences. I know our banks are well capitalized, but why take the increased risk.

Banking problems globally.
Many banks holding bonds bonds below the price paid for them.
Though well capitalized, these bonds are under water currently.
There is definitely more problems for distressed banks coming down the tracks.
These issues will take quite a while to normalize.
