I would not rule the drift back down to 294ish. Certainly looking at this morning. Not brave enough to sell and hopefully buy back this close to Q1 results.

With all oils roughly mirroring each others price movement would this lead one to believe that BP's SP is not specifically being manipulated and held down by shooters.

With Q1 results just two weeks away, and most of the good news already in the public domain regarding debt etc are posters less optimistic now on BP's share price come the 27th as I am. The 350 by Q1 posts at the time of the trading update on 7th April seems optimistic to me now

Please excuse my limited understanding of shorting but is it the case that the SP has been driven down by shorters hoping to close their position ( and buy back shares at a lower price ? ) If so, in your opinion do the shorters see the SP has lower to go, if not, why are shorter not closing their positions now. Hope that makes sort of sense.

Please excuse the inexperienced way of putting the question.

Mild lifting of restrictions not enough to lift the depression and anxiety of the market. No good news to lift the mood so BP drifting downwards with the wider market. On a positive, at least BP is not falling with the rest of the market rising. Onwards to Q1 with limited expectations.

The whole market is depressed this morning. BP is following the wider market down.

Groundhog week. Another lackluster start to a new week. Decided to top up again this morning in the hope a turn around in the SP after the pull back from 323, an excellent market update, buyback intention, oil holding steady over 60 this must just be a waiting game now.

I would like to know what criteria these brokers use to get to two opposing views and recommendations on BP looking at the same update. One positive and one neutral.

BP: Citigroup reiterates neutral with a target price of 300p.

This was the first broker view a day after the RNS news on debt reduction and the buy back announcement. I do not understand how and why Citigroup would reiterate neutral and 300p following the trading update.

Either those of us who are positive on BP or Citigroup's professional analysis are way off. I hope it is Citigroup.

So buybacks are a better option for the company rather than returning cash via dividends. My understanding now is that it is not certain that the buyback will increase the SP, although I now understand how it should in theory but not always in reality. Thanks

Excuse my ignorance but in brief how will the share buy back work Does the buy back involve the individual private investor's own shares ( mine ) or are the shares obtained from the market ? Thanks in advance. Mark

Out of interest, what are you setting as a realistic target price and what time scale. I would like to believe that 400 is achievable by the year end.

It's always interesting (and reassuring) to read rational opinion and analysis from Happy. I too have topped up again today and starting to feel slighly over exposed to one company but I do sense this is now just a waiting game.
