Use of coal to fill power shortfall an embarrassment and red flag.

And a taster from the article as I think you have to have a subscription (as I have) to read it all.

As the old song says "Oh dear what can the matter be?"

Even worse, up to 25% of electricity last month generated from coal. And July was certainly not the coldest month in the year. What happens in the winter if this demand is in the summer?

The Irish Times today:

Once Ireland kisses the Gulf Stream goodbye it will no longer be the windy, warm, green, "soft rain" land we have all grown up in and that will slow down those turbines and limit the sunshine and kick the generation of cheap solar and wind generated electricity into the bushes.

Data centres the key to Barryroe.

Government policies on carbon emissions, power generation and data centres have congealed into a kind of stew that looks set to boil over this winter.

Setting targets to switch to renewable energy is obviously a good thing. Growing renewable power generation is the right move too. Attracting billions in investment from blue-chip tech companies and creating quality jobs along the way looks like a sensible thing to do also.

But when the data centres require a massive increase in electricity generation and are on track to use between 27pc and 31pc of all the electricity we need by 2028, something doesn’t add up.

As for the future of Barryroe, you "pi**ed " me off so much that I contacted "others" to find out exactly what they thought of Barryroe's future and I think I am reasonably connected in Irish business.

I would point out I have met "your favourite investor", Larry Goodman, at a number of family occasions but it was not he whom I contacted. There are plenty of others and Ireland is a very "small" place compared to other financial centres.

So, unless you have information, other than the bees that fly around in your head, which you will share with us as to the future of Providence which will contradict my information please share it with us.

And the survey at "K" has absolutely no relevance to the outcome of Barryroe. It is only a stepping stone on the development path.

Now, what do you say to the following statement from Eirgrid. They are looking to have a number of new gas powered generating stations built in the next three years as they will be needed by the end of 2024 and early 2025.

And where better to get the gas than from Barryroe as one of those will probably be located in Whiddy using the KES pipeline.

Providence has granted options to their two newbies, Ann-Marie O’Sullivan 4,500,000 and Peter Newman 4,500,000 options.

Foolish newbies. Why did you not listen to the "guru" who says Providence is f****d and is on its last legs and will be less than 1p within spit time and you cannot make a penny until the share price exceeds 4p and you have held them for at least a year.

And you accepted options that are exercised after one, two and three years but he said Providence will be "for the birds" long before then having run out of money and they need a minimal price of 4p to get anything out of them. And Providence will have to survive for at least three years.

Irish Times article two days ago: "Winter blackouts look to be averted as power plants restored"

Industry sources expect the plants, at Whitegate in Cork Harbour and Huntstown in north Co Dublin, to restart generating electricity in October and November, in line with schedules already given by their owners.

Whitegate Power station is a Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) and with an efficiency of 58.5%
is the most efficient power station in Ireland.

The 445 megawatts gas-fired Whitegate Power Plant is one of the most efficient electricity
generation facilities in the world today and is a key strategic development for Bord Gais.
It is also a key development for the State as it enhances the country’s security of supply
and energy mix.

The power station is a purpose-built combined steam and natural gas-fired (CCGT) operation
on the outskirts of Dublin at Finglas, fed by pipeline with gas from both the UK and Ireland.
It has a capacity of 343MW and is capable of supplying 17% of the Republic’s electricity needs.
Construction began at Huntstown in December 2000 and the station went into commercial operation in November 2002. The second phase of generation at Huntstown was completed in 2009.

This idi*t does not understand what a diversified portfolio is. I have always been a contrarian investor, that is, one who buys when shares are cheap and keeps them until they appreciate.

You then take the money and use it and there is no better investment than "bricks and mortar".

For example, I used Woodside shares to help my son who lives in Sydney onto the property market. He purchased a house for AU$400k a good number of years ago. Two years ago the house was worth AU$750k and as he works for a big bank he was able to move up and bought a new house for just about $1m with full air-conditioning (badly needed down there) and a large swimming pool in the garden (also a good to have).

And all of that was thanks to my buying some "cheap" oil shares years ago, Keywest, and just sitting on them. In fact, I forgot about them for years.

Warren Buffett has made billions just by doing that, buying cheap and never selling.

Two interesting items in today's Irish Times business section.

1. Merger between BHP's oil and gas interests and Woodside. Potential value $13billion. Woodside my favourite to buy Barryroe through Exola if not all of Providence.

2. For subscribers a report on Ireland's electric network headed:
"Avoiding gridlock on electricity network key to unlocking Ireland’s low-carbon future"

the salient quotes says:

"There is currently a disconnect between the magnitude of the Government's ambition and the existing transmission network's capacity for variable renewable electricity.

"Put simply, the current grid is not fit for purpose. It is not ready to take on board the volumes of renewable power to meet and exceed the country's 2030 climate ambition".

In other words, the Government, aka Ryan and the "Greens", are "Up the Swanee river without a paddle" - all talk and no b**ls - and before long the crocodiles will get them.

If the electricity grid cannot accommodate all the variable "green energy" which Ireland might produce, what benefit does it serve?

Like yourself, I have used profits from Providence and others to fund house purchases for myself and my children. In have four and all are well established in four bedroom houses in various countries.

So, when I listen to a charlatan like "We're Doomed" I have to laugh especially now as he thinks a cryptocurrency is a good investment and he has made a paltry 50% in a matter of weeks.

Many years ago, I bought Australian shares when the company was rumoured to be in deep trouble at 3c. Next day they were taken over at 17c a share.

He has never commented on the fact that I sold many Providence at prices at or above £5 and bought back even more at an average of 1p yet today they are still trading at 3.8p. I calculate that at a profit margin on nearly 300% profit which makes his 50% fade into insignificance.

And, as they say, you never lose money on shares until you sell them. As long as you have them, anything can happen and at some time we will get a statement from Providence and "something will happen" and because they are so quiet things must be going in the right direction, otherwise, under stock market rules they have to tell us.

"And we're all off to Dublin in the green".

Now America is at it using more coal because gas is dear.

And people think this planet can go "green". Only if you mean "thick" as "green as grass".

To realise how far Irelaand is behind the curve "Three counties (Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo) are not connected to the gas network." This is why "Donegal has the highest percentage of homes where home heating oil is number one source of heat" and if that is the case, it uses a lot of bottled gas to do its cooking as well as good old coal and turf.

Nothing better than toasting your toes in front of a sweet smelling peat fire and eating bacon and egg cooked on a seasoned AGA. with a few slices cut from the bacon joint hanging in the fireplace.

And they think Ireland can be "green" by 2030.
