Climate arguments aside, I am more concerned that the full year results will produce further promises of “jam tomorrow” on the back of how very difficult it is in the North Sea, and the continuing fiscal unsteadiness in the UK economy. The Enquest Board are not risk takers , and the CEO with his enormous investment in the business is hardly likely to change that approach. Until the Govt ameliorates its draconian windfall tax, I don’t see any shareholder joy, but like many on this board I hope for minor miracles.

Interestingly the most deeply held views belong to middle and upper middle class individuals, who unlike the man in the street will not suffer the deprivations of Net Zero

Re Enquest flatlining. Next week AB has to come clean with shareholders. He must be aware that given the skin in the game he has built up over years, he can not possibly be happy with the flatlining of the SP , unless of course there is some deep unstated reasons which would keep him happy. If the news next week does not directly address returns to shareholders, I envisage a riot at the AGM.

I think you are right Dumbly, timing is the crucial component.

If Sunak has the courage he could bring the Labour bandwagon to a shuddering halt by launching an immediate detailed cost review of Net Zero, spell out the vast operational shortcomings of renewables including the subsidies they enjoy, highlight the effect on the poorest in the country, and table a motion in the house to overturn the risible act which Theresa May walked through.
