RE: British Lithium get grant for plant in Cornwall16 Apr 2021 14:26
"British Lithium has secured a Β£2.9m grant from Innovate UK to build the plant in Cornwall, which aims to produce 21,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate a year within the next five years."
Just checking back in here and saw the great news posts and the recent rise. Double double checking the figures work out.
On current global extraction rate, British Lithiums 21,000tpa of Lithium Carbonate is not actually very large?
Cinovec in Czech owned by EMH / CEZ & russian influence is looking at 160,000tpa of Lithium Carbonate. Around US$600 per ton current rate ?
If you research the big lithium mines and since the end of 2021 , the majority of big deals , say ... Tesla want Lithium Hydroxide. Lithium Hydroxide IS what the EV car manufacturers want and also the seperate battery gigafactories that supply the majors. It extents battery density and thus range of car in miles.
At 160,000 tons per year LCE ( not the 21,000 to s per year of British Lithium ? ) EMH are looking at a final Lithium Hydroxide production of 21,000 tons per year HYDROXIDE.
21,000 LCE would be around 3,000 tons per year and uneconomical by a heck of a long way ?
Average CAPEX for Lithium mine is approx US$250-500M. Add on a Hydroxide plant at an average US$350-375M and you begin to edge up towards a CAPEX of US$750-1Billion.
Just a thought. Something needs to increase big time for investors to make good money here ?
