@johnAG, you're going to get $1 for £1 at some point in the near-future, possibly next year, more likely in 2018. The only downside for BP is a lower oil price of course in the short term, and other known unknowns.

Nah, it will have soon recovered its losses. As long as the £'s heading downwards against the dollar, continued concern about the bond markets and BP maintaining the 4-times a year dividend (in US dollars), then it's going much higher in future.

The Fed want a weaker dollar against the major currencies and discourage capital flows, so they won't be putting rates up.

The herd's a bit jumpy so they're taking profit.

Possibly, but BP is going stratospheric in the coming months and immediate years. Fundamentals or results won't be a factor either, as perverse as that sounds.

Shell is also sitting on a big pile of debt. They're both in similar boats, although admittedly, Shell is in the more plush yacht.

It will be around £34 for every 5k of shares held. They might as well scrap the special dividend and just allocate the dividend of around a third of a penny.

ARM are stuck in a plateauing marketplace. Next year won't be so good.

The price of gold isn't tanking. The price of PAPER gold is tanking, because these parties want physical delivery of the metal, due to the severe shortage that's on the horizon thanks to gold backwardation. The paper price could drop another £100, but you'll have a hard time finding physical metal. Ultimately, though, the writing it on the wall for the COMEX and paper markets.

gold is currently $1288; Platinum is $1421. Gold is definitely being targeted.

@Luke. I think it's highly likely that MML are exaggerating their cash costs, and could be in the regio of £800 to £1000. I'm considering buying some shares as well, as the longterm outlook for gold looks good. I'm assuming this company being based in Australia means that future dividends (when they start up again) will be paid in Australian Dollars? What about holdings in certificated form? Are they sent from Australia as well?

@Dan_The_Man. Most markets are rigged these days. No analysis required for those in the know. In the real world, 100p would have held. in fact, the shares would probably be around £3.

Dunno if it's significant, but there's only currently a £35 difference in the spot price between gold and platinum. The gap has been closing for a few days now.

The paperbugs are really going after gold, nakedly shorting it like there is no tomorrow, when demand around the world is really strong for the hard asset. Something's got to give eventually. @sectorbreakdown, you've called it accurately so far. 1100 is a possibility, barring a "scare" in stocks, bonds or derivatives. if it reaches 1100, you'll get MML shares free with your weetabix. ;-)

@Ariel MML are actually mining gold, and paying a dividend. Many dotcom companies were valued in the billions and never made a profit -- the perfect bubble. And what's that old axiom? You buy low and sell high.

We've been in an odd deflationary environment when it comes to gold, while the Fed's been inflating stocks and shares. A turnaround must be on the cards, so that stocks generally depreciate and gold goes up, taking gold shares with it. The markets are so skewed though, so who knows what's going to happen next.

This is a real first, all asset classes are falling. The markets are really skewhiff, manipulated and paradoxically showing inflationary and deflationary signs. All thanks to the actions of the Fed. Maybe it's best to hold physical gold than gold shares, seeing as turmoil around the world is inevitable in the near-future.
