RE: Worth a read.20 Nov 2023 09:55
I can only write from the experience of my relative. He was given a PSA because of urinary problems. PSA was raised but not really high, but given an MRI scan. After scan doc said there was an ‘anomaly’ it might not be cancer, luckily it was small and well contained in the prostate.
So the MRI could not confirm cancer.
So I would suggest a blood test that was 95% accurate would be the first line of investigation.
After a biopsy a slow growing cancer was confirmed which they are leaving in situ. He was very lucky because in this area 44% of men who present with symptoms have cancer which has spread.
This new blood test will be a lifesaver and should form the first part of a national screening campaign in my humble opinion.
