Cornwall Council has refused housing applications in the area to safeguard possible mining land, they provided circa seven hundred thousand from the Good Growth Fund and the local council Callington Council hosts regular meetings with residents. Remember most original Cornish residents are just a couple of generations away from miners or farmers. I could have put it in a more pithy way but refrained.

Just a reminder SML get in 1.2 to 1.5 million annually from other mining operations and are expected to get up to 3 million for sale of a non core asset and a future share of the profits.

Have you seen the amount of Ginster Pasty lorries leave Callington to head around the country? They have to be made in Cornwall to be called Cornish. The locals cope with that. My family coped when they built the factory over the road from their house. Ginsters chose the best area logistically.

The land it is exploring is owned by a local person, but in 2024 the mining company signed a landmark agreement with the Duchy of Cornwall to expand the area it can explore. This agreement is the first agreement signed in decades with the Duchy and they are the only company allowed to look at Duchy mining archives, which they are using to assess other opportunities in the Tamar Valley historical mining area.

Callington Council is involved with the mining company exploring in its district for critical minerals like tungsten, copper and tin, it holds public engagement sessions and regularly updates the local community on progress. It has a town plan which prevents other developments which might conflict with possible mining areas.
