Fair point about the stand 👍 and transporting it there. It's on a Thursday and Friday so staff won't cost that much extra. For the Irish market, I'm not sure if there is a better option.

Looks like another barge is nearly ready to go.

Whilst the news of the signing of contracts for new ships with a French

shipyard is devastating by any stretch of the imagination, it is the beginning

of a new resolve to achieve affordable fares and freight and a better service

for all connectivity for these islands. The Secretary of State for Levelling Up

has written to me advising that he has set up a task force of officials to

achieve solutions to the challenges that face Scilly in light of the current

situation.

We will not be diminishing our efforts in this matter. We will be pushing on

with renewed vigour and all our strength to achieve a transport solution that

is fit for purpose and provides a good future for the user and indeed for

Scilly. We will not rest until this is achieved.

There will be a special meeting of full council on this matter in the very near

future. We are also, as you are aware, in receipt of a large petition that

demonstrates the public concern on the islands about the plans to introduce

new ships via private finance and not using the grant.

In view of this and the announcement last week confirming the signing of contracts, a paper will be coming before full council next month to deal with this petition and the concern surrounding this matter in order to take forward the recommendations.

Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Simon Coveney TD, is in Scotland to visit Kincardine Floating Offshore Wind Farm and the Fraserburgh Operations and Maintenance Centre for Moray East Offshore Wind Farm.

Ireland has an ambition to have 5GW of offshore wind in operation by 2030 with a further 2GW in development. By 2040, the ambition is to have 20GW of offshore wind deployed with the target rising to 37GW by 2050.

We also discussed the potential for collaboration between Ireland and Scotland on a range of offshore wind-focussed matters such as building a successful supply chain and optimising Research, Development and Innovation (RD&I) initiatives.”

The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment is currently developing Ireland’s first Offshore Wind Industrial Strategy and it is expected to be published next month. Its publication will be in tandem with the publication of the Offshore Renewable Energy Future Framework Policy Statement by the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications.

The energy company said that with an expected total investment of around €300M, construction of its two hydrogen-ready, 100MW flexible gas peaking plants in Athlone and Dublin continued.

Both plants are due to join the grid in the first half of 2025 and will boost the country's energy security, it added.

Dave Kirwan, the managing director of Bord Gáis Energy, said the company continued to invest in powering Ireland's future economic success, progressing new and creative advances to deliver the energy transition, while supporting its customers through the worst of the energy crisis.

"Support from Centrica enables us deliver strategic investments and a customer-centric approach which will continue to yield positive results in the long term," Mr Kirwan said.

The South-West Kinsale reservoir, a satellite of the Kinsale gas field, has previously been used for seasonal storage and is the most likely candidate for offshore gas storage. Its daily delivery rate was relatively low at 29 GWh/day. PSE historically operated the storage at South-West Kinsale with a working gas: cushion gas ratio of around 0:2. It is possible that this ratio could be increased, however injected gas above a certain critical volume may risk escape to the main Kinsale Head reservoir.

The fields would require gas injections (cushion gas) to bring them up to a level of

pressure required to store gas. PSE Kinsale states in their consultation response that approximately 1bcm of gas would need to be injected back into the South-West Kinsale reservoir to restore productive capacity.

. The historic storage

delivery rate from South-West Kinsale is substantially below present-day gas demand

and would need to be at least five times greater than is currently possible. Even with an increased cushion gas /working gas ratio, the gas field could not deliver adequate gas supplies to address the risk of an interconnector failure, meaning it does not satisfy Ireland meeting N-1 infrastructure test. It is noted that the field could not be replenished in case supplies from the UK were not available. therefore it is expected a significant level of State support would be required to

introduce this proposal. While difficult to quantify capital costs, it would include a high cost for cushion gas to restore productive capacity at the outset. This could negatively impact energy prices for the consumer.

It could be a negotiating ploy to present themselves as having other attractive options other than Islandmagee. From memory ,the business case they use can just as easily be applied to Islandmagee. Islandmagee has the potential to be another all island energy project like the North South interconnector that benefits UK and Ireland.

I think this is an interesting proposal as it also shows some financial values ( 500m euros for a gas/hydrogen storage facility). Islandmagee seems a much better proposal, closer to demand centres and expected growth areas of Dublin and Belfast. I'm not sure they have progressed very far and there could be a very obvious reason for that.

Cashflow will benefit from stage payments for this job. I'm not aware of what the industry norm is but would expect it to be based on key milestones being achieved/signed off. On a straight line basis, it's about £12m a month.
