Market are based on supply, demand, fear, greed and expectation. The fear element has been the overwhelming sentiment for several months, thus leading to a slant heavily towards supply. This weeks announcements have switched the dial towards positive expectations and rightly produced a strong demand element. However, the demand has been insufficient to take out the huge supply. Yes, the share price has improved but only in relation to the recent all time low. The volume of the last two days equates to around 5% of the company. The supply must be coming from either disillusioned investors of the 20p placing (41 million shares) or the lending institution which was just issue 10m share warrants at 14.25p. Either way, providing optimism remains, we will work through this log jam. Since the placing, volume has averaged 600k which implies much of the placing stock could have been sold already.

Up until this week, I have been investing in HW on a hope that this government would bring, apprenticeships and employment, to heavy industry and more specifically, shipbuilding. .The leveling up agenda was always about that. Additionally, I totally understood the need to store more gas, especially when we have gone headlong into zero carbon without a backstop.
Now, my hopes have been met. Yes, I admit, my investment is still underwater and no meaningful contracts have been forthcoming. However, the survival of HW is no longer in doubt. Anyone trying to put the company down, either verbally by attacking the BoD (and shareholders on here) or financially by shorting the stock, needs to step aside and let a more visionary, positive vibe take over. In the words of Churchill, this is the end of the beginning.
I no longer see a downtick in the share price and wonder if a placing is coming or some bad news about IM. I now start to think, maybe another buying opportunity.

I am firmly of the opinion that yesterday's debt facility would not have been forthcoming had the company not been awarded MoD contracts. The most likely is the 10 year oil change and tyre kicking for our two aircraft carriers plus construction of at least one vessel.

Where does all this stock come from? It seems a never ending supply of 25,000 50,000 and 100,000 blocks...it is very difficult to fathom why anyone would not celebrate a company securing its ability to go out and get some of the huge naval and wirly gig contracts... Worth many, many £billions

Three steps forward but one back. The debt facility ensures the long term prospects of the company. It puts the cloud of another share issuance totally put of the picture. It gives assurity of a stable contractor to prospective customers...However, to get the deal over the line, I feel giving 10milllion shares away at this price, a bit tough to swallow. Knowing these type of people, I would expect them to have been selling short to keep the price as low as possible until the strike price of 14.25p was agreed. The cloud lifted, future assured, we can now all breath a sigh of relief and realistically expect major contracts in the next few weeks. Onwards and upwards.

Nice to see our ever present seller is active today. One day, hopefully, this supply will dry up.

A component of steel, Nickel, has been suspended on the LME following an all time record surge for any metal. The 250% spike to $100,000 per ton, has caused widespread disruption amongst end users and supplier's . The Chinese Construction Bank is one such player caught with short margin call payments in the hundreds of millions.

With Poland buying Bab****s Type 31, Australia announcing a speed up of the nuclear submarine delivery by US, UK and Sweden raising defence spending...the shift is gaining momentum. Although Poland will build the Type 31 under licence, it further advances the export potential of the navy's newest, multiplatform designs. Bring on the strategic review by Tuesday. Fingers crossed, next week is, as Churchill once said...the end of the beginning.

Eastern European countries, Poland and Hungary to start with, have joined Germany in pushing for higher defence spending. A wide range of UK politicians continue to argue for a return defence spending of the 80s and 90s. Whilst this shortermism will not push Boris into a rapid about turn, it will eventually deliver increased spending. Technology will undoubtedly be the main beneficiary as Putins tanks and dated heavy weaponry have been found wanting vs Ukraines NATO donated modern defence systems. That said, our Air and Sea capabilities are at deep historic lows. I fully expect an acceleration of contracts currently in the pipeline. Scottish shipyards are thriving and at full tilt. To speed development and deployment, the UK needs to ensure a broader build capacity.
As for energy, the Zero carbon plan is holed below the waterline with detractors finally brave enough to talk of the huge financial cost. Our independent energy capability has been catapulted into the limelight with decisions to stop investment in fossil fuels, now widely questioned. Gas and gas storage has been given a defib like shock and its existence and longevity has been assured and extended.
The UKs only franking Wells are to be concrete capped on the 15th March. A reversal of this by the government would send a strong message as would a push to reinvigorate the North Sea oil and gas sector.
All in all, I remain positive about the position HW finds itself. Assets, both shipbuilding and fossil/green energy, bought at knockdown bankrupt costs may still prove to be a steel.

With Brent Oil at $118 this morning, the huge uptick in costs of each wirly gig will look more affordable, hopefully spurring the recent bidders of Scotwind to get on with construction applications and reserving capacity at local fabrication yards. Whilst this oil price is unlikely to be sustained, it is indicative of a significant reduction in exploration which will keep prices somewhat elevated for some time. The big issue will be the huge demand for local fabrication from 2023 onwards. I suspect deals to reserve capacity at construction sites are well underway. Lets hope HW are pitching our capacity reservations nice and high. The outlook is fantastic for future revenues. Once a finance/debt package is in place, we can start talking of EBIT, EBITDA, yield and dividends....ahhh the sunlit uplands

Let's hope the owners were happy with their experience as they have another 5 or 6 similar vessels. I hear it was a much bigger refurb than originally expected, possibly into 7 figures.

The Yuan continues it ascendancy. 6 1/2 year high vs trading basket and nearly 10 year high vs Sterling.
Partly due to Ukraine but more on economics. The working population is declining with child birth plunging also. As the population ages and the workforce shrinks, the country will accelerate a push away from labour intensive industries like steel and shipbuilding, which have transformed the economy, towards higher end tech, innovation industries. This will enable some of the jobs lost over the last 30 years to return to developed nations.
